I got a weird question here.
if bass spwan shallow. and the rain keeps coming.
say for instance a lake is 20 foot over and it keeps going up and down. example it drops a foot a day for 10 days then it rains for 2 days and goes back up to 18...... and so on. if the temps are right for spawning and rain keeps comming untill water temps are in the 60s could some lakes spwan be hurt?

Fish lay eggs in nests. If they build Their nests too shallow and water comes down, then we like to say that "The Corps has left the spawn in the woods, again." Three or four consecutive years of dry eggs can result in poor fishing. Barren was dismal for bass and crappie for that reason, luckily, it has rebounded, thanks to six or seven years of stable water during spawn.
walleyemaniac pretty much nailed it. As long as the bottom doesn't get pulled out, everything will turn out OK.
Seems to Me If The Fish Layed There Eggs On What Would Have Been The Bank And The Water recedes Back Down To Normal Pool The Eggs On The Bank Would Dry Up If this Makes Any sense.
The spawn is still over a month away from getting going good. And the spawn last a while not all fish spawn at once so it wouldn't be that bad.
My best guess is that as the rains have started earlier this year it may help. Usually we get these rains much later in March early April. Seem to have started in Feb. this year. Maybe by the time the water warms up the biggest rains will be over.
It works vice versa also....If a fish lays her eggs and then it starts raining and the lake comes up a bunch it can kill the spawn as well....A fish spawns in a certain depth for optimal warmth from the sun....I've also heard of fish that have eggs ready to lay just getting rid of them because of the constant water level changes
I think it can. The wife is never in the mood when we go fishing in the rain. ERGO....I wonder if there is some intergalactic feminine connection.
I would think the rain would raise the creek temperatures sooner and just cause the spawn to happen earlier.
So those of us who plan all year for our trips. Get one shot at it and when the 1st week of May comes around I guess we are screwed. Like in 2008 Flowers dead, water down to normal pool fished put out and we all miss the flippin' bite. My nightmares have already begun!![]()
