    OSU Buckeyes in HOT water...

So it was reported that Head Football Coach Jim Tressel knew about the improper benefits and money that his football players took from the tattoo parlor as early as April of 2010. But it was not reported until December 2010 and then Tressell had the 5 players sign an agreement for them to come back this year and serve their suspensions instead or running off to the NFL. Sure seems to me that Jimmy Boy knew the trouble that he would be in and did not report the violations as to win another Big 10 title and make a run at another BCS title. If it comes out that Tressel knew and did not report then he should be fired and the OSU football program put on serious probation. Maurice Clarette (sp), Troy Smith and now these 5 all receiving improper benefits under Tressel's watch. Serious lack of control on his part for the program if it is proven to be true. He made it sound back in December that it was a shock and had just heard of the players taking the money and benefits. Bruce Pearl's suspension for lying to the NCAA was just the beginning of his troubles, I think he will get fired over it, and Tressel should be let go as well if it is true. It won't happen in Tressel's case, unless he steps down, for OSU and their football tradition and what they bring to the school versus Tennessee basketball tradition and what they bring to teh school are no where near equal.

If it is proven that he knew way before reporting it, it is time for Tressel to get his walking papers.

The best parts I pasted at the bottom. Tressel should have been fired and all the University Brass that keep people like him and Bruce Pearl employed need to grow a set and can their happy non-truth telling, truth beholding butts. If this is the example that the leaders of our Higher Learning Institutions are going to set, then the world is in much worse shape than we all think it is in.

"Wherever we end up, Jim Tressel is our football coach," Smith said. "He is our coach, and we trust him implicitly.""Obviously I'm disappointed that this happened at all," Tressel said. "I take my responsibility for what we do at Ohio State tremendously seriously and for the game of football. I plan to grow from this. I'm sincerely saddened by the fact that I let some people down and didn't do things as well as I possibly could have."

Ohio State president Gordon Gee said he and Tressel had discussed the violation at Gee's house for 3 hours one night. Gee also said he had not considered dismissing the Buckeyes coach. "No, are you kidding?" he said with a laugh. "Let me be very clear. I'm just hoping the coach doesn't dismiss me."

In May of 2009, The Columbus Dispatch reported that since 2000, Ohio State had reported to the NCAA more than 375 violations -- the most of any of the 69 Football Bowl Subdivision schools that provided documents to the newspaper through public-records requests. Most of the infractions were minor and resulted in little or no punishment

375 violations in 10 years. I am no where near knowledgeable about the law. But I would think if somebody was busted 375 times for little old speeding tickets, or passed on a double yellow line and got busted 375 times, or had received 375 DUI arrest, that sooner or later they would have gotten in a bit of trouble. But report 375 violations to the NCAA, no matter how minor they are, and somebody is not doing their job of "Institutional Control". Whether it is the President of the University, the AD, the Coach or all of them, somebody has to be held accountable and get canned. My guess is all those victories that Ohio State had last year and the bowl money it received will have to be forfeited because the coach knew about the infractions BEFORE the season started and told nobody. He knew these kids should not be eligible but that did not stop him. Where does it all end if the school is reporting 375 violations, how many are they not reporting?

I think if he knew about the violations and didn't report them then the Sugar Bowl win and Big 10 championship should be forfeited, too. But that's just me.

According to the article that I linked above, he knew about it in April well before they played their first game of the season. My bet is and it should be if the NCAA has any sense at all (but we know they don't), every game that the 5 kids in question played should be forfeited and all money from the bowl game returned. This would mean that they forfeit every single game last year. The 2 game suspension was from Ohio State. The NCAA is still looking into the topic for them to hand down their disciplinary action. Sort of like UT suspending Pearl for the first few games of the SEC season but the NCAA is not done with their part just yet.

Pretty funny that the AD said he trusted Coach Jim Tressel, " IMPLICITLY". I wonder if he knows waht IMPLICITLY means?

So what exactly did the kids do? Sold stuff that was given to them by the NCAA in exchange for some tattoos?
