Today I decided that I was going to fish the lower end of the lake. I went to Cane Run Marina and the Dock Hand met me at the ramp. I might have been able to launch there but didnt want to chance it. Road is very steep at the water now.
I decided that Chimney Rock would be the next best. I get there and see that it is $10 for launch........well I think what the heck and launch. Then I realize that all I have is a $20. The HONOR SYSTEM doesnt give change. I planed on going to break the 20 after I was done. When I return back to the dock after fishing I was handed a note.
The note read......" You didnt pay your $10 fee to launch. We would appreciate it if you put it in now. If you dont pay, your vehicle will be towed next time you dock."
"We do have a honor system when we are closed and also security cameras that run 24hrs a day."
She also said thank you and left the number to the dock if any questions.
I have been fishing Herrington for a long time and have never stiffed anyone out of money for a launch and wont! I also wont ever go back to a place that threatens to tow me!
End of rant.

Is it just me or is it not really an honour system if it's patrolled by security cameras and someone who visits your vehicle waiting for you to return?

Go right next door to pandora they are really nice and after you launch you can pay at the lil dock shop and pump still only $5. In the winter I put in at 6 am and someone was there. I will never put in at chimney way to expensive.
Amen brother. The Yacht Club will get no more of my money. They need to pay for the $5500 concrete job that they laid. At $10 a pop, they should have it paid off, well, last year........
Launch at Pandora. There are very nice people there who aren't trying to dig in to your wallet, plus there's a boat dealership/service building at the top of the hill. Do the math.
it would be bad to do a man that way, take his truck and trailer and leave him stranded.
I thought it was an over reaction by far. High price and rude will hurt them in the future.
I say we all start asking for receipts (if you launch at Ripmeoff Rock) so there's a paper trail! See if they're declaring all the fees as income to the IRS.
I don't see the big deal other than the high cost. How were they supposed to know you would pay later? You should have put a note on your dash saying that. Or better yet, arrived at the ramp with something smaller than a $20.Today I decided that I was going to fish the lower end of the lake. I agree with Know1. I've seen to many people skip out on ramp fee's at just $3. Funding cuts hurt our fishing and money has to come from somewhere. Just wonder if anyone has been cited at other ramps for not paying fees? I would of left a note or gone and got change.
They tell everyone that your lic. fee and fishing related purcheses go back into the resourses but I think that the politisans have there hands in the pocket to since it's a multi billion dollar sport industry.![]()
Know1, I guess it just rubbed me wrong. Honor system, under surveillance, and threat of towing . I stopped at gas station on the way and simply forgot to get smaller change. I usually carry smaller bills. Oversight on my part, yes. They assumed I was going to skip on the payment and was ready for confrontation.
They came to make sure that I paid, but couldn't come down when I was launching to see if I needed anything. Assistance, gas, or change.
