it is political. cant fix it if you dont understand what the problem is. only folks who can fix it are the two us senators and the congressman. if they dont put it i the appropriation bill and keep it there, its gone. simple as that.

I never said it was or wasn't political so why call me out on me posting what number I was on the petition. Second there are a hell of a lot more useless spending cuts that could be made. Why not cut spending on things that do not have an economical impact. In my opinion the government needs to be ran like the private sector. This way someone is held accountable for the wasteful spending. Now back to the original topic I don't care if the post was political or not I felt like signing the petition so I did.

I believe you are correct on that. There is also a 10% federal excise on all fishing tackle manufactured (paid at the time of the first sale). Do you know where this money goes?

Andrew, the excise tax goes into a general fund and is redistrubted to the states based on the sale of hunting and fishing license. That was the reason for the $5 charge for seniors instead of free because KDFWR was losing out on some of that excise money.

I will follow the rules of this board, but I will say that allowing the rest of the post to remain in the fishing discussion is a double standard. The post has nothing to do with a lure, reel, where the fish are, or how many were caught. It is about federal funding. I recognize the moderators have the right to do whatever they want.

Everyone that signed the petition voted for continuing our national debt. We'll see what happens in a few years when our debt affects our ability to maintain our reservoirs and native species. I'm sure 98 percent of the bass fisherman on this site will love that.

Tim, i respect your comments and enjoy your post, but I'm just trying to get people to start thinking about a world where there is no money for any programs. We're in such bad shape that it's coming to that. The days of common sense approach are over and it's just going to get worse. If I had a choice to continue my favorite hobby or prevent the economic collapse of this country for my sons sake, I'll take the latter any day.

I understand there's economic benefit to a lot of these programs, but it's money changing hands. It's moving from my tax dollars to benefit someone else. Sometimes that someone else is the minority. We used this "common sense approach" for too many years and now it's caught up with us. We will have to make painful and drastic cuts across the board to prevent the next depression.

I actually don't want any spending moved from hatcheries programs and conservation projects. I commented on this post to maybe make a couple people start to think about the future of our hobby and how its affected by the economy. It's an interesting debate. This will be my last post on the topic. I've enjoyed everyones take on the subject.

etc. I agree with much of what you say, but the USFWS is pretty self suffecient, so the only way to cut spending is to completely do away with it. There are hundreds of places to cut spending that will actually save money, but this doesn't appear to be one of those.

I certainly agree that the original post had political over tones. However, closing hatcheries certainly does have a lot to do with fishing. Leaving the original post on the KY forum, and moving the political discussion here allow both to take place. That was my reasoning.
