fishing falling water levels

well I got a buddy taking me to barren on sat never fished there before and ive never done well with falling water but i really just cant wait to get out on the water. usually ill stay away from falling water levels but it looks like thats going to be a little hard in ky this spring. plus i cant pass up a fishin trip. so my question is does anyone have any confidence in a certian lure when fishing droping water levels?

They are only dropping it a couple inches a day, you won't even be able to tell.

I find that it is not about how many inches a day they are dropping the lake that mess with fish on these COE lakes. Its the current. Usually current turns on bass, but these fish are not used to current, so it messes em up a little when the current gets cranked up by the dam. At Barren, any time it goes over 3000cfs, the fish suspend off the points. When the water is clear, a suspending jerkbait ina natural shad color is great, but with teh heavy stained to muddy water, im not sure what to try. If the water is warm and they get agressive, maybe a chatterbait, you just gotta figure out the depth.

thanks guys i will deff post a detailed report when i get back. i did see that there is a tourny the same day. i hope its not a huge one. it says they are lauch out of the state park. thats the same place my buddy and i are wanting to go. does anyone else know of a good ramp to lauch out of at barren where we wont have to run 10 or 15 miles to fish?

I think there is a ramp at Bailey's Point but then I have not fished there in a few years so I might be mistaken. Go to KDFWR's website and click on "tournaments" then scroll down and click on "more tournaments". Then click on the bottom right top button. This will bring up a page listing all the lakes and rivers where most people have tournaments. There you can click on Barren River Lake. It shows the various ramps and tournaments going out and expected number of boats.

Baileys Point would be my choice in order to avoid @30 boat tourament leaving the state dock. You may have to back down the ramp rather than use the swing around area due to high water. As for lure selection, flip your favorite soft plastic to the base of the tree/brush line. Good fishin.
