    Re: WTF

I guess there is not enough poverty, unemployment, and other devastation in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to use this money locally. Lets go bomb other countries and continue to support other countries that in the big scheme of things can't do squat for us in a pinch.

    Re: WTF

African countries have had civil wars and uprisings all throughout history...but let it be one that is an OPEC nation with a bunch of oil and...launch the missles baby! (All in the name of democracy, of course.) I think that Libya exports most of it's oil to Europe, but with this unrest and military actions the price of oil everywhere will shoot up even more...

At least when Reagan bombed them it was for retaliation after they engaged in Terrorist activities. I really don't know what our goal is with this deal in Libya...

At first, Nobama said we "wanted Gadhafi out." Now, we "want to end the violence against innocent civilians." So, is it one, the other, or both? Is that why we're really there? Will we be happy if the Eastern (rebel held) side of the country gets some kind of independence and the Western (Pro-Gadhafi) sector remains? Will Gadhafi be held accountable for all of the violence against innocents?

Who knows. At least the Arab League has come out in support of the military action at this point, which some say will keep the rest of the Arab World from seeing this as another US vs Muslim attack. Somehow, I doubt it. I read that there is heartburn in Saudi over the way we threw Mubarak under the bus in Egypt after he was our big buddy for 30 years and did everything we told him to. At the first sign of uprising, we threw him smack dab under the axles and sided with his people.

One positive some see from all of this crap is that maybe the people in the Middle East are starting to recognize that the U.S. is not their problem...it's their own dictators that crap all over them daily. I just fear that we are sending a message to any country around the world that all you have to do is rise up in a group against your dictator and Obama's got your back...tag him in, and he'll jump off the top rope and put your leader in a triple-suplex until you are free. The younger Muslim generations turning toward revolution all across the Middle East might be good for the future, but in the short term the Muslim old-timers and regime are going to make it a blood bath. The first time we don't side with the revolutionaries, it'll be "Death to America" all over again. In the short term, we're damned if we do, damned if we don't.

    It's a big hot mess.

You'd think the Middle Easterners would figure out we're not their problem, but I believe it's very unlikely, more wishful thinking than anything else. I don't know for a fact but I myself kind of tend to believe that a lot of countries see us as a world police, and why qouldn't they, heck that's what we tend to be it seems.

Knowing what I know about today's economy and how broke are government is, just the thought of all this crap we're doing in Libya wears me out.

I don't know if it's good or bad either one to intervene in Libya. The answer to me seems to be drill for oil on our own turf and quit depending on foriegn oil...of course that's pretty easy to say today, how long would it take to start producing enough oil in our own country to where we could tell the rest of the world they can keep their oil?

I don't vote, never voted and never will vote for if the left hand don't stab you in the back the right hand will stab you in the heart. So I can't say anything about the leaders of the country, since I did not vote them in or vote against, but with the problems in Middle America to hell with the Middle East.

    Re: WTF

Those cruise missles had expiration dates from last year. It costs too much to destroy them so we might as well save the taxpayer some money. At the same time give our military some realistic training. It's a win- win situation for the U.S. . The Arabs are gonna hate us anyhow. Libya submitted their innocent civilian casualty report to the press before the first missile was fired.

    Re: WTF

Someone has to help those who cannot help themselves.

If US citizens were under attack, by the US president, who would save us?

You can't simply dismiss what is going on in Libya and say that we need the money here. Lives are being lost, and someone has to help. If we turn our backs on the world, then the world will turn its back on us when we need it most.

The Western coalition includes the U.S., Britain, France, Canada and Italy.

This type of arrogance is disgusting and un-American.

We had help in establishing this great nation, and it is our duty to return the favor to those who also need help in fighting oppression, so that they too can live happy and fulfilling lives as we do so here today.

While I can certainly appreciate that, how come we only do it selectively? There are oppressed people all over the world...why are some worthy of our intervention, while others aren't?

    Re: Really?

I don't think it was the United States decision to go to Libya, not 100% anyway. I think we're there mainly because the United Nations voted it to happen. Sooooo....how come we have to be the one's leading the charge? How come we can't say to the U.N.; "Ok, look here fella's....the United States has a cripling economy that still isn't hitting on all eight cylinders yet, we're kind of broke, we're kind of on hard times ourselves. But tell you all what...you all go ahead and lead the charge and if worse comes to worse we'll have your backs, we'll come and help out if needed."

Because we have the greatest military in the world, that's why. The US can get the job done the quickest and cleanest, and with the fewest casualties.

When you're the best, you're in high demand.

We will get our money back for helping out, but you probably won't ever hear about it. Gaining allies and forming alliances with other countries can pay massive dividends and are hard to put a monetary value on. It's good to have friends, just in case something goes wrong at home.
