African countries have had civil wars and uprisings all throughout history...but let it be one that is an OPEC nation with a bunch of oil and...launch the missles baby! (All in the name of democracy, of course.) I think that Libya exports most of it's oil to Europe, but with this unrest and military actions the price of oil everywhere will shoot up even more...

At least when Reagan bombed them it was for retaliation after they engaged in Terrorist activities. I really don't know what our goal is with this deal in Libya...

At first, Nobama said we "wanted Gadhafi out." Now, we "want to end the violence against innocent civilians." So, is it one, the other, or both? Is that why we're really there? Will we be happy if the Eastern (rebel held) side of the country gets some kind of independence and the Western (Pro-Gadhafi) sector remains? Will Gadhafi be held accountable for all of the violence against innocents?

Who knows. At least the Arab League has come out in support of the military action at this point, which some say will keep the rest of the Arab World from seeing this as another US vs Muslim attack. Somehow, I doubt it. I read that there is heartburn in Saudi over the way we threw Mubarak under the bus in Egypt after he was our big buddy for 30 years and did everything we told him to. At the first sign of uprising, we threw him smack dab under the axles and sided with his people.

One positive some see from all of this crap is that maybe the people in the Middle East are starting to recognize that the U.S. is not their problem...it's their own dictators that crap all over them daily. I just fear that we are sending a message to any country around the world that all you have to do is rise up in a group against your dictator and Obama's got your back...tag him in, and he'll jump off the top rope and put your leader in a triple-suplex until you are free. The younger Muslim generations turning toward revolution all across the Middle East might be good for the future, but in the short term the Muslim old-timers and regime are going to make it a blood bath. The first time we don't side with the revolutionaries, it'll be "Death to America" all over again. In the short term, we're damned if we do, damned if we don't.

It's a big hot mess.
