My objective breakdown is the same thing that I have said all year long. Wait until the Conference as a whole starts playing teams from other Conferences in the NCAA Tourney. Some teams are better early in the season and others get better with time. UK for example full of Freshmen are not the same team that an experienced UCONN beat in the Maui Invitational Tourney. That is why the Super Bowl of College Basketball is played at the end of the season, unlike Bass Fishing and Nascar when their biggest event is played at the beginning of the season. 68 teams playing in a Lose and go home system is the best way to find out who are the best teams and best conferences. Conferences playing each other all year long just does not show which conference or in some cases which teams are the best. Butler last year proved how this can be true for they came from nowhere to make it to the championship game and if the half court shot does not bank off the rim could have been the champs instead of Duke. Win 6 games in a row, 7 if it is a play in game, against all different teams and all different conferences proves who is the best. I have never said the Big East was the best conference but also never said the SEC was as bad as people say it is. I have said that the proof is when they start playing other teams in the big dance. The Big East is not head and shoulders better than the rest, the Big Ten is the Big Three plus 7, 8, 9, 10 or however many teams are in there now and the SEC is not as bad as people say it is. The Big East has had several teams lose to lower seeded team, SEC had Vanderbilt dissapoint, The Big 3 are still alive pending Sunday's games. Objectively speaking, if Purdue wins today then the Big 10 or Big 3 plus 8 has done the best for their top teams have won and advanced. SEC would be next for their top 2 teams have won and advanced plus had 1 team dissapoint. The Big East would be behind both of these conferences for the fact that they have had several teams lose to lower seeded teams and their top team has been bounced from the tourney all together. This is just comparing these 3 conferences for the sheer fact that they are the 3 that UK, Louisville and IU happen to be in and these are the 3 schools that are debated the most. If BYU and San Diego State continue to survive and advance to the Elite 8 or Final Four then all 3 of these Conferences will take a back seat to the Mountain West Conference. Let the debate continue, but a LOT is riding on Notre Dame today for if they don't bring their A game to Florida State then the Big East may not have a dog in this fight at all. Florida State is very physical and if Notre Dame can't bang with them and keep them off the boards then it may be a long day for them.
