My fishing partner and I have caught a lot of big smallmouth at Laurel over the years. The thing with Laurel is, for us anyway, you really have to fish it a lot to put together any kind of pattern. There have been MANY times that I was ready to never fish it again. But there's been enough good trips to make up for it. We fish Cumberland, and Dale Hollow (a little bit), but our best trips in KY have been on Laurel. And we don't often catch dink smallmouth. If you catch one, the tendency is for it to be a nice one.

I agree with aceoky Grove or Holly Bay are best, this time of year for smallmouth I prefer Holly Bay. I dont know the name of the creek, its down by the bird sancuary, has been really good for me. Best of luck!
