if you have no choice, that's what you can do. I personally would prefer if you slowed down a bit but it wouldn't bug me too much. What really gets my blood boiling is if I'm clearly off to the side and some idiot planes through them when he could easily go around them. It happened to me last year and I jumped into the driver's chair to have a chat with him. I was gaining on him until he saw me and he hammered it down. I had every intention of boarding his boat to settle it in person. I was extremely PO'd b/c it was plain-as-day intentional. And before anyone says anything...yeah I could have gotten into trouble but it would have been he said vs he said and at the moment I was willing to go for it. I repeat I'm not saying my actions were smart but it was the heat of the moment.

I too encountered a jugger some years ago at T-ville and the jugs were stretched clean across the bay.

I wanted to be polite, but geez, the entire bay was covered in jugs. I just cranked down to idle and puttered my way through the flotilla of jugs.

if they are stretched across and you have no choice, that's fine with me. For this very reason I do not stretch across a bay or the main lake. I'll line a bank with them to forego this issue (honestly most juggers do line them off to one side...I'm sure there are exceptions). The one time I mentioned above they were all within 60 yards of the bank and the idiot had 500 yards behind me to drive his boat. But no...he planed by my boat not 25 yards away. I give full respect to others and expect the same in return. I know this guy did it on purpose.

Yes the signs were at settlers trace. And what the deal was they put a x amount of tagged cats in Taylorsville. Too see how long they lasted. I heard that the limit was coming for 2 years now. So it was in the works for a while. I jug fish to with my kids but I dont go hog wild and try to get 50+ fish. But if someone did not do it the cat fish would be like the shad.

47 was my best day but 30-40 was the norm for me. Keep in mind this was only 4-5 times a year though...not every weekend. After tearing through those 47 that one time, my electric knife was too hot to hold....made me lol at the moment. I got pretty quick about cleaning them that one year...took me about an hour...hour and 10 minutes to filet 47. Get a nice sharp short blade to start the skin on each side, catfish skinners, and electric knife and you're good to go.

And if the catfish population was like the shad, you wouldn't hear me complaining. After I catch all I can eat for the summer and winter, I fish with poles. I'm getting my boat set up for drift fishing right now. Locate a hole with many fish showing and drift over it once or twice....that's the plan anyway. I'm sure I'll learn as I go. My boy is almost old enough to go noodling with me.....will try that next year.

BTW: I've never been to Settler's Trace....only Chowning. I've never been down the lake past Chowning but once and had a bad time in a cove so never went back. I was right in the middle of the cove...70-80 yards from shore, water 20 ft or so and got hung up on a submerged tree. Finally got the boat off it after 10-15 minutes or so. I was getting ready to jump in and pull it off when I got it loose finally. That incident left bad vibes with me for a long time. What if I had hit that tree at any speed? live and learn

I've caught six tagged fish in the last two years. The first one I caught I thought someone had foul hooked the fish with a chartreuse rooster tail. They are rather small and are located at the top of the fish near the tail end. The call in info is super small and the grime must be removed to have a chance to read it. I have actually called in a couple while fishing and then released them. These were small fish we were not going to keep anyway. The department takes the info, and will send you a catfish pin. I sense that they have kind of lost interest in the program.

Re: New limit on catfish at Taylorsville

I have jugged at night on Taylorsville but I use a reduced number of jugs and run them down the side of a bank not across the lake. I also stay with them with my lights on so other people can see me. Anyone that keeps a respectable distance from me will never get near my jugs. "Fishin is life" did the pontoon boat have their lights on to let you know they were there? I have no sympathy for any fisherman jugging or with a pole that I disturb at night when they have their lights off. I can't see them in the dark and they are the one's creating a dangerous situation. If I see someone with lights on at night I try to go as wide as possible around them.

Here is a decent KY Afield segment on jug fishing Taylorsville and the blue cat program. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa4ikBSeAis
