    Trolling motor Question

I purchased a new minn kota today and the instructions say to put a 60 amp marine breaker in line on it between it and the battery. Is this really necessary or is it excessive safety precautions? Also I could on find up to 50 amp at Gander Mountain and a Minn Kota brand 60 amp is $40+ so if I do need it do I need the MK or can I find a simple on at the marina?

One more question, I bought a foot switch (on/off) should I install it in the positive or negative. I know either side will work but is one side more correct than the other?

    Re: Trolling motor Question

I have a 60 amp inline fuse on mine. In line fuse in 6-8 ga wire (not sure what gage the wire is ...ben a while since I installed it, just match the wire ga on your motor). The fuse holder has a place for a spare fuse. 60 amp fuse available at most auto parts stores.

I know a breaker is more convienent as you can just rest it. But mine has ben installed for over 4 years and have never blown a fuse.

If you do blow a fuse more times that not you have a bigger wiring problem and resting a breaker or replacing the fuse is not going to fix it anyway. (unless its a simple cross wire).

Here's on at Amazon.com for inline 60 amp fuse with 8 Ga. wire...$3.66.
