    Talking Barren Report

Has anybody got a clue what to do at Barren this time of year?? Always fish in June and September in the BFL's. Taking my son to fish a Fishers of Men Legacy Tournament this Saturday and will not get to fish any before then. Any help would certainly be appreciated!!!
    God Bless & Good Fishin,

There is several tourneys there this weekend, you wont get much info right now. It took 22 + lbs to win a tourney here Sat, with 18+ 2nd, we had 7.98. They are pulling it hard right now so there is current and daily dropping in lake levels, if you find em you can whack em, as they are somewhat stacked, for what to throw like I said we had 7.98 lbs so obliously I did not know what to throw, had 1 around 4 and one right at 3 and a small slot, throw the typical spring baits and let them tell you what they want. Good luck, be careful.

Was this weight with each angler weighing in fish for a combined weight or was this one limit per boat?

Things have changed over the last 9 day period. we had water temps in the 55-57 degree range about 9 days ago, however this past weekend tx water temps have been down do to the cold front we have had. spinner baits slow rolled or bounced have been fairly productive. as far as where to fish, thats the hard part, like posted above, they are stacked.

    Re: Barren Report

Right now with the water temps lowering the fish have moved out a little bit.. They were moving shallow and were thinking about the spawn and then this cold front hit and they started to move back out to the points that are adjacent to the spawning flats.. That was the key to finding fish last weekend from what I have heard because we struggled.. Channel bend on a point that was pretty close a flat.. The fishing changed a lot from Friday to Saturday and they didn't bite the same baits.. I think fish were caught with just about anything from crankbaits, rattlebaits, shakey heads and jerkbaits.. Big fish of the tourney was caught on a rattlebait from what I am told.. Hope this helps..

I have a dumb question.....where are spawning flats on Barren. The only flats that I see are mud/clay bottoms. Don't the fish need a nice hard bottom such as pea gravel/sandy bottom to spawn on?

Fan out the silt down to the gravel. Lots of spawning flats on Barren that are primarily gravel.

Add in a stump or log or brushpile and so much the better. I know of a great sloping flat that leads to a drop of about three feet. The drop is no more than about 200 yards long but it holds alot of fish. I am sure alot of you know where I am talking about.
