    Bluegrass 4/1

Fished Bluegrass pit for a few hours this morning with a friend. Chilly and windy, water temps around 49 mainlake up to 52 in the H. Caught quite a few fish on cranks, jigs and lipless cranks. Had 2 keepers today at 20 and 20 3/4in.

The day wasnt over yet. Fished another lake on our way home and caught 3 more good fish including this beast. Best 5 for the day went 21-15 with 6-13 being the biggest. Unfortunately, Josh lost what may have been the biggest bass either of us has ever hooked. He can chime in with the details later...

Nice, I am hopefully going to get out there mid morning tomorrow after some crappie. It's nice to see some quality fish from there, makes me excited to start fishing up there.

What types of locations are best in the 2 large pits at Bluegrass? Is it best to fish the shelves, drop offs, stumps, weed line?

Josh and I caught a little one each today. Winds at 18 mph, tomorrow winds are suppose to be ever stronger. Staying home to watch the race after church. =)))

18 was the forecast. I think we were blown around the lake faster than we idled.

    Re: Bluegrass 4/1

    Depends (Short answer)

Long Answer: Depends on what fish you are after and the daily temperature of the water. Water warming up fish the weedlines or top of the drop off shelves. Water cooling down then fish the bottom of the drop offs.

Fish can also suspend off the drop offs over the deeper water.

Are you asking about bass, crappie, sunfish, catfish, or muskee?

I am thinking your are asking about fishing in Loon, Bluegrass or Otter Pits in the Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife Area.

Not much grass left after the cold winter month. Most of the grass died off during the winter cold water period.

Water temperatures are still in the upper 40's to low 50's. Today it warmed up a bit but not very much.

Tomorrow the winds will be out of the South and brisk but it's going to warm up. I'd fish the North End of all these pits as the Southly winds will push the warmer surface waters to the North and push them up against the Northern Banks. Think of wind driven currents tomorrow if you do fish. But winds of up to 40 mph gust are predicted so be careful out there. Long stretches of water that run North to South can get pretty rough with a strong Southerly wind.

The guys I spoke with today were catching crappie in deeper water suspended at 25 ft deep.

One local expert crappie fishermen told me that he was catching some shallow when the water was warmer last week or two. But only on days when the water was warming up.

I didn't fish today but did talk to a dozen fisherman at Bluegrass and asked them about their day and how they were catching their fish. Some nice bass were caught but I didn't ask about the details. Some short bass were also caught and returned to the water. There were a lot of boats fishing Bluegrass Pit today and a few boats on Loon. I saw three boats on Otter this afternoon.

I am waiting for it to warm up some more before I get my boat out and start fishing again this year. Still have a leak to fix and am taking my time on that repair. Once I get my boat leak free I'll hit the water and fish some.
