I will say that this should not have come down on kentucky at all, because this was strictly a high school deal, but I have a hard time believing someone as academically challenged as Bledsoe could have carried a 1.75 GPA for three years and then transfer schools and pull it up to a 3.0 in one year.

Bledsoe's transcript shows that he got his 90 in Algebra 3 during the first semester of his senior year, prior to taking Algebra 2 during the second semester. Bledsoe also received an A in Algebra 2. Before Bledsoe came to Parker, the highest grade he received in high school math was a C, according to the transcript.
Asked whether it is common for students to take Algebra 2 and 3 out of sequence, Martin responded: "It isn't normal for a person to do that or be allowed to do that. Had I looked at his transcript, I wouldn't have allowed him to do that. By the time he got to us, I guess what we had to do ..."
Martin paused before continuing: "Well, I ain't even going there with that. I'm going to my grave with that."
Bledsoe's transcript shows a significant academic turnaround between Hayes and Parker. According to the transcript, he had a 1.75 core GPA when he left Hayes late in his junior year and produced a core GPA of 3.0 at Parker.

What is so completely pathetic here that you UL fans can't believe that a kid, who lived in a car for a 1 1/2 years before changing schools and actually began a somewhat normal life, can change and improve himself. You people are ridiculous. The only thing you all care about is that he went to UK so something HAD to be wrong. When you were 15 years old how much studying would you have done living in a **** car???? NOT MUCH. He stabilized his life and his grades improved. Happens everyday, Of course unless you go to UK and play for Calipari, then there's no way at all something funny wasn't going on. You're talking about a KID, ex-UK player or not. Walk in his shoes before you judge him you jackasses. And learn read what's written rather trying to put words between the lines. All that says is that the grade was changed and the teacher stood by changing it, no implication at all that it was changed so he could get the grades the to graduate. Again, A KID, changed himself and did extra work to get a better grade, hell I even did that when I was in high school.

Tell me.....have you ever taken an advanced algebra class. He took 3 before he took 2, and he GOT an A doing that.......even though he never had received any grade better than a C. He also did this without any tutoring??
Algebra is built from the ground up. Stuff learned in 2 simply cannot be LEARNED in 3 if you don't have the 2 foundation.
Somewhere along the line, rules were broken and folks LIED plan and simple. A don't believe for one bit this kid legitimately got that grade......

That's not all it says and you are the one with a reading comprehension problem. Read the entire report, you can google it.
"Again, A KID, changed himself and did extra work to get a better grade," I seriously doubt he did anything but get someone at his high school to make sure he could play college ball. No wonder the team GPA was 2.0 last season, lowest in basketball history at UK.
There is almost a 99% chance this kid could not do the work. Bledsoe had zero business being on a college campus and is another reason the one and done rule is idiotic.

Everybody is hating on Eric Bledsoe and he is not the problem here. The problem is all of us here that watch the games, buy the merchandise, pay through the nose for tickets, and spend $200.00 for beer and hot dogs at the games. The American public is to blame for putting the money into the hands of unscrupulous peoples hands and letting them influence the youth of today with promises of being rich superstars. Just imagine if all the fans of the NFL refused to buy all the merchandise and go to the games. How much do you think an NFL player would make? Or do you think the players and owners would be fighting over Billions of dollars then?
Eric Bledsoe did what he (a child at the time) thought he had to do and that was to get a scholorship. Did he care about school? Hell No! Why you ask? Because his sorry ass parents were looking out for the millions he was going to make in the future and could care less about highschool. Does Eric Bledsoe need algeba? Probably not, he made $1,485,000 last year and some one asks him what is the answer to x + 2y = 0 is, he can pay me and I will figure it out.

How many people remember Darnell Burton? He led Dunbar (I believe) from Lexington to a deep run in the Sweet 16 before signing to play basketball at Cincinnati. He was there a total of 5 years in the mid 1990's but did not play 1 year due to being suspended for drug use. I think his last year was 1997 because in early 1999 a man came in and put an application for employment at the plant I was managing. The owners wife did the hiring for the building and Danell was hired. A few months passed and Darnell did a decent job and as all new employees that get hired he began to open up and talk more and more. Of course, his basketball career was a hot topic. One day mid summer it was smoldering in the building, I had the plant take an extra extended break due to the heat. That day the subject of his career came up and he began to talk. Said that he was there for 5 years and NEVER paid one single cent for any books, food or supply from campus. Said he carried around a card with him that the university swiped anytime he wanted something that could be bought on campus. Said he did go to class, sometimes, and even then he could walk in make an appearance then walk out and that was classified as attending the class, had tutors to help him for his studies and even then said tutors basically had all of the exam questions specifically to study those parts for exams. There was a year that he was suspended for failing the drug policy after I think it was his sophomore season. He said he has no idea how many drug test he failed before he was suspended. Said he did not change his ways for one single day and failed just as many his Jr and Sr seasons but the university had CHANGED its drug policy basically just for him to allow him to play his last 2 seasons. During his Jr year, after failing his first drug test, he asked his coach Bob Huggins if he was going to lose his scholarship and Huggins said "You served your time last season and we missed your jumpshot. As long as you keep making jumpers, you will play here as long as you want or until your eligibility runs out". Burton said he tested and tested this statement because not only did he fail drug test after that, he smoked more and more bud after that statement than before. Said he stopped going to class and meeting with tutors more and more. Darnell never received his degree after spending 5 years at Cincinnati, not even an associate degree or any other undergraduate degree. I asked him about that statement later when it was just him and I on the plant floor and Darnell said he did not OFFICIALLY have enough college credits to be a sophomore much less get some sort of degree. He was making minimum wage less than 2 years after his eligibility ran out at Cincinnati. His hand writing was horrible and what little writing he had to do on his production paperwork consistently had spelling errors that for a guy who attended 5 years of college should never mis-spell. A really sad story of a kid that was pushed thru or walked thru the SYSTEM just because he could make a jumpshot. I think I read somewhere a while ago that Darnell was arrested for drug possession and sales.
Take a kid away from his home for the first time, put him in a big playground like a college campus, give him a credit card with no limits, look the other way when he fails drug test after test after test, then change your own rules to "accomodate" him failing test to keep him playing ball, then look the other way when he stops going to class and doing worse on test, ALL BECAUSE HE CAN MAKE A JUMPSHOT. And this is the treatment that Darnell Burton, an average player on an average team with an above average history just because he can make a jumpshot. Now fast forward 10-15 years to a high school kid recruited by EVERYBODY who is going to play for a high profile team. A grade here a grade there, if a University will change it's drug policy to accomodate keeping Darnell playing then what will a high school do or change to make sure Bledsoe (way more highly recruited player) keeps his jumpshot on the court??? Way too much MONEY involved in every level

Lol who didn't know there was a double standard already? I did! That's life and it's all about who you know and if you make money for them.
Hell if you could get a College Head Coach to open up you would get worse stories than what you heard from Darnell. College sports rakes in the money and that breeds cheating, lying, stealing and double standards....so when coaches get caught for infractions all it tells me is just that...they got caught. The other coaches are doing as much or more and are better cheaters so they don't get caught...yet.
