Greatest Free Throw Defense in the country. No doubt that UCONN won both games on the scoreboard. No doubt UCONN won the first meeting. No doubt UK LOST the second meeting more than UCONN won it. 4-12 from the free throw line for UK versus 9-11 for UCONN.
Now that the love disbelief shock happiness and whatever else happens when your favorite team gets to the final four is over for me. Realistically, I do believe the Big East was the best conference in america. I do not believe there was such a wide gap between the Big East and the other conferences as to alot them getting 11 bids out of a 16 conference team and their overall record in this tournament proves that out DRAMATICALLY. Personall, if you don't finish in the top half of your own conference regular season then you don't deserve an invite to the big dance unless you win the conference tournament. UCONN would not have gotten in for they finished 9th in a 16 conference but did get in by winning the BE tournament. With the BE getting so many teams upset and beaten by teams seeded or ranked lower than them proves that the conference was not as strong top to bottom as it was thought to be before the big dance. It was still the best conference top to bottom but not as strong top to bottom, if I am saying that right and making any sense. UCONN won the game against Kentucky and just like the Kentucky defeat against Arizona in the championship game of 1997 when Nazr Mohammad could not make a free throw, going 0-6 himself, and Kentucky goes 9-17 from the line versus Arizona's 34-41. Terrance Jones going 0-5, with 3 of those being front end of 1-1's, and the team going 4-12 versus UCONN's 9-11. If Kentucky wins that game and goes on to win tonight then the SEC is a lot closer to the Big East just because it has the champ at the top of the list. As is, BE is the best conference but no where near as strong as people thought.
