I'm looking to purchase a new finder. I'm looking to purchase either the 898 or the 998. I can't decide if the 998 is worth the extra inch. There is about a 500$ difference. What do you all think.

How much do you rely on electronics? What is your intensions for aquiring a unit? What type of fishing do you do? All questions you have to ask yourself.....
The 898 is good sized and nicely powered but I believe the 998 has a little more to offer than just size? If I could afford the extra I would get the bigger unit - Myself. I use mine to bass fish mainly KY lake so I am scoping out ledges and looking for balls of shad.

The difference between the two is in the screen space. I have the 898 and fish Ky Lake. I don't see the $500 difference myself, although there are those who will advise you to get the biggest you can afford. If I could have afforded it I'd have sprung for the 1198, but it wasn't in the cards. You can save a bunch of bucks by checking out prices online. My 898 was $1284 w/free shipping.

Universal Mania is by far the cheapest site I have seen. I have several friends who have bought from them and have had no complaints.

I decided to go with the 998, and I got it for 1532. Alot cheaper than anyone else has it for. Universalmania has good prices as well.
