I went to the public meeting on this issue back in March and i am not a KDFWR employee. They were only wanting to git rid of something called curly leaf grass/weed...exotic non-native??? In prior years this was sprayed in May/June which only kept it in check, now they want to erradicate it. They stated they prefered the coontail and other native grasses be dominat and evidently this stuff takes over. They mentioned the curly leaf gows way too thick. Also, questions were raised about reducing the size limit or a slot. I gather they lose the control element on how many bass are taken out. I can see where they want to know if enough were taken out. KDFWR stated the bass are around 30+ fish an acre, normal should be about 15-16 per acre if memeory serves me correctly. Long story short, KDFWR is going to take some fish and restock them at Guist and another lake. Lots of opinions, some even thought 1,000 fish wasn't even close to enough to making a dent in the population. I think they stated two weeks afterward they would resurvey/sample the waters and take more if need be. The goal is to make the panfishing better which will inturn help the bass fishing. They mentioned a 1.5"-2" jump in growth for the overall bass population at Beaver by Fall because of this. KDFWR mentioned these fish were eating everything they could find, but there just wasn't enough forage, which lead to the poor size distribution. I would guess around 20-25 people in attendance and no one really disagreed with what they wanted to try. If they did, i didn't see it voiced. They did mention you could get a recorded copy of the meeting if you wanted. When ever we asked a question they made us use the microphone plus state name.
