    Re: Dogwood lake

I like the new rule regarding Dogwood Lake, but if they really took the bouy markers out, that's just insane. Even with the markers, it was a real challenge to navigate without hitting a stump. I can't imagine the thinking on removing these markers in that area.

I'd like to see the state open up waters that are 100 acres or more, to a 9.9 motor. Anything less than 100 acres I can certainly understand keeping it as a trolling motor only lake. Try fishing Celina Lake in the Hoosier National Forest with a trolling motor, it takes forever to get around the lake and your battery is usually drained before you're ready to leave.

Lakes in Southern Indiana like Indian, Celina, Tipsaw, John Hay, Deam, Tuckers etc, are prime candidates for this such change. There's hundreds more throughout the state too. It would make for a better fishing trip, allowing the angler more time actually fishing than being in transit.

The DNR has nothing to do with the rules on the HNF lakes. Leave those pristine lakes alone and gas motor free. Sounds like you need a better battery!

Raptor do you like to fish out of a kayak or canoe? Just curious as to what type of boat you use in the Hoosier National Forest.

I know a guy down here that fishing from the bank while wading and he is not really happy with the gas engines being allowed on Bluegrass's pits. He told me that the oil contamintes his waders. .

But he is wading in the water right next to the launch ramp for gods sake.

The only real reason I need the gas motor is when the winds are up and I can't make any headway with my boat's trolling motor against a 20 mph head wind. And when I have to put the boat back on the boat trailer it's nice to have the gas engine to drive the boat up onto the trailer.

I fished Bluegrass when it was electric trolling motors only and there were not nearly the amount of boats on those lakes as there are today. It was a lot quieter back in those days too.

I stil prefer to have them allow the use of gas engines as long as there is a no wake speed limit or idle speed only speed limit on the water.

Moveon, I fish them out of my 17 foot tracker or my 10 foot two man boat. 20 MPH winds the tracker doesn't go to TM only lakes. JMO but I do think there are some places that do not need gas motors.
I fish Sugar ridge a lot and just enjoy the peace and quiet of not hearing an outboard motor. Now if the powers that be say it is OK I will not be sitting around crying because someone else got what they wanted.

I hear you. I enjoy the solitude also. To me that's what fishing is all about. Although I do like to listen to music while I fish. But I wear headphones so that I can enjoy the music without bothing other's around me. Besides the music sounds better though the headsets.

I got my boat ready to go and now the motor is not spitting out water like it's suppose to. I towed a guy into the dock the other day and he noticed that the water was not coming out of the "PEE HOLE" of the motor continusouly. We were going slow at idle speed. I had launched in a low water spot and probablly got some muck sucked into the engine's lower unit and into the water pump as I backed off the trailer and though the shallow weed infested water. It was only about 2 ft deep below the transducer. Which is mounted flush with the very bottom of my aluminum bass John Boat.

I still need to take it into the Boat Repair Shop and have them look at the lower unit and probably install a new rubber impeller in the water pump and to also check the thermostat to make sure that it's closing and opening right.

Then my truck's idle speed started acting up. So I'll be taking that into the mechanic to get that fixed. When it rains is pours sometimes.

I spent all spring long getting the boat leak checked and fixing all the cracks and leaking rivets.

Good news is that the weld job fixed the big crack in the seam of the side wall and boat bottom and it's working great. I am not getting any more water inside the boat when I fish for hours. I found 5 rivet heads that had very slow leaks and patched them with some epoxy.

Now if I can just get the truck's engine running right I can get back to fishing.

that doesnt for sure mean anything is wrong. at idle, it probably wont be a constant stream. cold lake water constantly cools the thermostats off and they shut alot.

Good luck with all that Embrey. Hope it isn't anything bad enough to keep you off the water.

LOL it was me with the water pump problem.

I just got an email from Wild Bulletin IDNR and it says that Hoveys Lake and Dogwood Lake are both going to allow larger motors now. There will be a 1- mph speed limit which is faster than the idle only speed limit at Bluegrass F&W area.

But and this is a BIG BUT, they don't want us power loading our boats back onto the trailers at the ramps. So I would suggest that you go up as far as you can go onto the boat trialer in one try and then winch your boat up the rest of the way. IE don't sit there and hit the gas after the boat stops 2 ft short of stopping and try to power up the last few feet using the motor. That digs a big hole at the end of the ramp when the water's down low and causes headaches for all the other boaters trying to launch and recover their boats. IDNR may not like that. Not sure what the penality will be if you power load your boat as the email didn't say. All it say is don't power load your boat as it damages the ramps.

When I called Glendale they told me they were going to replace the marker bouys early this year. Also she said they are watching people like hawks ready to hand out tickets!
