Hopefully your not by yourself and can share turns working out--lol--even better if like 3-4 people are on the boat.
two idiots in a boat.... what's the worst that could happen? oh wait!
REALLY???????????????????? I once pulled a pleasure boater in at Old Hickory Lake in a middle of a storm with lightning all around becausae I saw what looked to be a grandfather, son and grandson all stranded in the middle of a channel. I towed them about 2 miles to the boat ramp all the while I am by myself in my SHINY BASS boat praying to God I don't get struck by lightning!Glad that you and your son made it out of that situation ok...scary.
I have noticed the few times I've needed help on the water...I could never get the guys in the nice shiny bass boats to stop and help me...it's always the older guy in the pontoon, lol. Go figure.

I helped them because I didnt see any old men in a pontoon around! What a stupid comment to make about shiny bass boats.
Another time, my trolling motor went out and on the way to the ramp my lower unit goes bad leaving me in the middle of the Ohio River with no way to move my boat whatsoever. Two guys stopped in their brand new shiny Skeeter bass boat and towed me back to the ramp. Thing is, the boat was not ordered with cleats to tie a rope to. The passenger sat on the back deck and held the rope to tow me in. Oh, and they were fishing a tournament!
Again---no old men in pontoons around to help.
The law requires that if there is loss or damage to property (including the vessel) in an amount of $500 or more the operator of the vessel is required to complete a Boating Accident Report. You can find this form in the KY Fishing and Boating Guide.
I couldn't find it but I also thought it was a law that if a boater sees another boater in distress that a boater is required to give aid.
Not to sound mean but if I am on a busy lake and I go by a stranded boat I am much less likely to help if I am fishing a tournament. Assuming they aren't sinking, hurt or in danger. If its a remote location where they might not get help I may come back by after the tournament and make sure they got some help. If money isn't on the line or I am not doing well in the tournament then I wont care. If I am practicing or fun fishing I always help.Glad that you and your son made it out of that situation ok...scary.

One suggestion is if your boat or motor goes down remove your cowling on the motor as so people that are going by realize that there is a problem especially when someone is waving at them because this sometimes will draw the "blank stares" if your cowling isn't off. Actually I don't think I could hear an air horn while running - but I am aware of my surroundings, I have towed in over a dozen boats while I fished a tourney and chastized a guy when I seen him blow by a family of 6 in an old runabout that was broke down - his cowling was off and I knew there was a problem!!!! Just some food for thought I almost wish there was a flag or something people could wave but until then take your cowl off and wave at me I'll stop tourney or not!!!
Lost a buddie several years ago on Cave Run whose boat quit and he tried to swim it back to ramp and got caught up in some under brush and drown. Be extremely careful, help out when you can.
Shiny bass boats don't stop to help people....stupidest most ignorant comment I've ever seen written on these boards....I've got a shiny bass boat and have towed several people back in....runabouts and bass boats alike, and I've seen several other shiny bass boats tow people in...as a matter of fact i've seen more shiny bass boats towing people around than i have pontoons or runabouts...that comment was about as ignorant as somebody saying that all people in runabouts are drunk and have no clue how to handle to a boat or that just because someone isn't in a big nice bass boat that they aren't a good fisherman....Does it happen, sure, but don't sit behind your computer and try to stereotype a group of people because we have a shiny bass boat....pure ignorance
