As silly as it may sound...I smoke a cigarette. Inevitably while I am lighting up and taking my frist drag or two so follows a tug or two. No joke, the fishies know when you let your guard down - so only let it down halfway and fool em! (I have also missed numerous fish this way, but hey a bite is better than scratching yourself)

Also, one tip I guess you may already know of though is for going after LMB with a plastic lizard hooked up 'weedless.' Instead of putting the tip of the hook all the way back through the plastic just put it in about half way so the tip isn't showing at all. Then you can cast in the thick of the weeds, be prepared to whack that pole when you feel a hit though it takes some work to get the hook through.
