    I need some new socks...

Went to a shoe store with the wife last night (not much fun, but it is what it is). Anyway while there she reminded me I need some new socks. After checking some of the socks out they were all made in Pakistan, Taiwan, or who knows where else?

Just a pair of socks is all I'm looking for....just a simple pair of white, made in America socks! Not looking to get into any debates about how the Union's drove all the companies out of America, etc....just looking for some American made socks. If anyone knows where they sell them please let me know.

Fruit of the Loom used to be made down in Campbellsville KY....my Mom worked there when she was a teenager....but that plant closed and they are now made in Honduras.

I'm sure you can insert any other brand and any other American town and the story would be much the same.

However, through the magic of Google...

Wigwam Brand socks, it is....made in Wisconsin....even source their wool from American sheep....

It's dang hard to buy American....since the news in recent weeks started taking stuff out of people's homes that wasn't American made etc it got my wife to thinking about it a little more. She's been a little more cautious about what she buys. Man I'm tellin' ya....go to Lowe's or any store and look at the label's on almost anything you want....Made in China seems to be where most of the crap comes from. Today she tels me we need to go to Lowe's and look at some of the yard art stuff....she got to lookin' at where it was made...long story short we came out of there with buying anything other than a couple of vine/climbing plants.

I told the guy at the register that if they took all their non-American stuff off the shelf they wouldn't have much left. All he told me was he try's to not think about it.

If you all are considering some new jeans or bibs or what have you I just discovered a place called Pointer Brand, they're down in Tennessee...check them out at www.pointerbrand.com.

Man I know what your saying Tim but man look at the prices on those things! Toss in tax and your paying $50 for a pair of Carpenter Jeans! Carhart has some american made jeans.

Side note...alot of our products at work that we are distributors of are made in the USA. Some specs (usually fed money) are written to have american made products....(you prolly new that) so I like that we are keeping some mamufacturing jobs here.

Granted some of the components are from other countries but most of the stuff is made right here in the US.

Carhart's pretty dang proud of their clothing too. Heck, when it comes to any kind of jeans just about every manufacturer is more expensive than what I think they should be. Therefore....from here on out, my money for britches is going for the American Made one's.

The least expensive jeans I think I've seen are Redhead that I see when I go to Bass Pro, however I think they're made over sea's, so that counts them out in my opinion.

It really is kind of sad when you think about it...kind of feels like I'm strapped down and being forced to purchase from the foriegners.

And Wranglers are $20 a pair at Wal-Mart, but made in Mexico...that's the difference in money that Mexican labor and the arm-twisting that the big box purchasing agents gets you...

"Good" for the American public that needs merchandise at low prices. Of course, they might not need it at such low prices if all of their jobs hadn't been sent overseas and unemployment wasn't at 10%. Of course, unemployment is at 10% partly because American businesses were forced to trim the fat when the economy went South...the same fat that was causing a pair of American made jeans to cost $50...

Of course, maybe the fat wasn't in labor as much as it was in executive salaries and stupid spending...but I digress...

    Vicious circle, anyone?

I think it's a combo of alot if things. Watched 20/20 the other night and they were talking to politicians and Corp execs about this very thing. Corps blame our gubment for placing such high taxes on them so they pulled up stakes and went elsewhere the savings were incredible! The politician was complaining that they couldn't figure out a way to get the corps backed into a corner long enough to pay taxes. I blame politicians and unions.

There are some very high quality socks made here in Southern Indiana. Many styles to choose from. I bought six pairs of their wool blend boot sock.. I have not worn another brand of sock in months. They fit like no other sock I have ever worn.
