    Laurel 4/16

Fished a little club tourney down on Laurel today. Water was between 57 and 60 degrees and in better shape then I thought with all the rain, stained to clear, mainly out on the main lake. We fished Spruce Creek (mistake) with lack luster results, but we were trying to dodge the wind. Caught 2 LM on a crankbait and another on a baby brush hog. All 15"+ on banks with flooded bushes and timber. Made the move to a main lake cut and caught 4 largemouth 17" plus in about 45 minutes on shaky heads. If we had got on that pattern earlier as soon as we got there, could have had a real good day. A couple of boats in the club did and the winner won it with a 36 pound bag and second with about 33 pounds (but we are a immediate catch and release club, no live weigh ins, we measure and throw back with a 12 inch minimum and up to 16 per boat) The majority of their big fish were Smallies with the biggest being 21 inches. The big fish were biting down there today, if anybody is going down there, I hope this helps a little, if you go, good luck.

36 pounds? Wow, I heard Laurel was hot right now, but that's awesome.

I think those weights were relative to the 16 fish limit per boat. Is this correct?

man, I live close to laurel lake, { the dead sea } and any day or night that I catch 7 fish, I consider that a very good trip. I've fished all the big name lakes in ky, tn, al, and laurel river lake is the hardest lake for me to catch fish on than any of them. and 36 lb first place, you guys are doing something right.

That is still 2.25 pound average per fish. Pretty darn good on any lake in KY. I fished it twice and only done good with live minnows off points. One night caught a 3lb smallie, 3lb walleye and a 4lb trout off the same point.
