barren lake report

went to barren the morning of the 14 caught some dinks and a couple of keepers, fish in the timber. the 15th raining and storms caught some dinks they moved out in front of the timber. Could not fish Friday afternoon, or Saturday at all bad weather, they even cancelled big tournament going on down there for the districts. Fished sunday before we left they were scattered, went over and fished at the golf course in the weeds and grass they were scattered. The fish down there are spawning or going to spawn any second now. The tails on the fish were tattered from making beds. Water down there is 64 degrees. Got to meet some of the pros in the tournament wow what boats and equipment makes me feel jealous even though we fished from a skeeter. By the way water is about 15 feet above pool and they are predicting more rain. Thanks for all the input on where to stay helped out a lot.

Mine personally was a 4" yum dinger worm. The other one was a wack rig with light weight, and homemade hair jig. Hope this helps.

I fished barren Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Honestly the fishing was pretty good. My brother and I flipped black and blue beavers all three days with a lot of success. We caught a lot keepers around 3 pounds with a big fish of 6.68 lbs. We fish pockets from the front halfway back. The key was finding the right pockets that held fish and slowing way down. Most of our fish came in water 5 feet or less.

Well, had a few hourse to kill this am so I headed to Barren...it was my first time putting in at the new Port Oliver ramp...dang that's nice! It was windy as all get out on the main lake..my teeth are still chattering. Water near the dam was clear, 60 degrees, water was definitely up. I headed over towards the narrows and fished some of the creeks across from there, and up into Skaggs a little...found water temps around 62 degrees, water clarity decent. Fishing, however...was not that decent for me. I threw everything I had at them and only managed two crappie (on cbs) and a monster gar (thing had my heart beating until I saw it ). No lm's or hybrids at all..... Oh well, felt good to be on the water...I'm sure the weather might have shut them down a little, who knows?

crappie on cranks is a good sign.. that means they are agressive... sounds like time to hit em u with some road runners...

Went with my wife Sunday afternoon fishing for crappie. Throwing slider grubs exclusively. Caught first fish, a black, in about 18 fow 10 foot deep on wood. Light bite.

Second fish was a white from 30 fow wood with brush strapped to it in 15 fow. Just felt some resistance on the bite. Next two whites came off the same wood. One was a keeper the other was 8 7/8 but fat.

All fish females. The eggs in the black were very light in color and not well developed. We may be still a little ways off from the spawn.

All fish caught on black w/ chartruese tail slider grubs on a black slider head. Water temp was 58-57. Water clear for Barren standards. Roughly 2.5-3 foot I could see my jig.

As the lake gets back to normal I will start to pull cranks on the ledges for crappie.
