Back around 15 years ago my dad and I use to fish Patoka Lake in Indiana and we use to catch 8-9 inch bluegill all the time. That was the average size. I think we caught a total of 5 over 12" when we were fishing there (shellcracker and bream). We would catch anywhere from 50-100 a day and anything smaller than 8 inches we would throw back and that's no exaggeration. I'm not sure if fishing pressure or the stocking of stripers hurt the bluegill population there but something sure changed because they're nowhere to be found anymore.alot of these are over 8" fish but they didn't come from rough.. http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/c...=fishin199.jpg
I have caught bluegill in rough that were all i can do to get my hand around them to get the hook out . I caught one last year that was 10 1/2" while crappie fishing. I let it go because it was a female. bluegills over 7" is pretty big.
