    deep cranking???????

I just bought some deep diving crank waits never really fished them before. The only cracking I've done is 10ft or less. Well I tried it sat. At gueist creek and within a 45min time span I missed 6 fish and two was good ones. I would have them on feel them fighting head shaking and then nothing. On shallow cranks you do like a sweep hook set. That's what I was doing and didn't work do i need to set the hook harder on deep diving cranks or any info will help thanks.

Really depends on your rod. You want a very limber rod with cranks. If your rod is too stiff it will pull the hooks more than setting them which will make you lose a fish. Crank baits are notorious for losing fish anyway, anything with a treble and weight gives the fish more freedom of movement to throw a lure.

I use the Gloomis Deep Flex MH 7'2" Cranking rod and it is great for those deep divers. Really limber top end with a stout backbone sets the hooks and the limber top end keeps them from pulling out.

Also remember, most of the time, with a big deep diver, your casting alot
longer, and you've got a lot more line out. I always try to reel, with the tip down, sometimes i'll put it 2'-3' in the water, when i get a hit, i sweep it with as long of a pull as i can get, and i reel fast, trying to take any slack, and stretch out of the line. Stay with it, i've had several days i've caught 2-3 over 4 lbs in less than an hr.

Rods definatly make the differance in catching fish with deep cranks. I started playing around with them last year and had the same trouble with losing fish. I went with one of the skeet reese crankin' sticks and it helped me tremendously on my catch to loss ratio. Hang tough with it. I think you will really like them.

Flourocarbon... eliminate that line stretch all together. Use a good moderate action rod. I like 7'6" MH / moderate action for deep cranks.

I would try a different color crankbait first. When you are throwing the color they want they will choke it. If that doesn't work then change your hooks. Go up one hook size.

I'm agreeing with bassman_ky....Try a subtle change in the color of your crankbait....I've also seen times where the fish just bite weird...Not only on crankbaits but on jigs and worms also, you the big thud and set the hook and there's nothing there...Just keep tinkering with small stuff until you get the exact setup you want
