    Geronimo!

So, now we've got Native Americans all butt-hurt and offended that "Geronimo" was the code name for the mission to take out Osama....because it is dishonoring the proud heritage of the Native American to link Geronimo's name with Bin Laden.

Good lord...we have some of the biggest cry-babies in this country that I have ever seen! For God's sake, find something better to bitch about than that. "Geronimo" wasn't even Bin Laden's codename....he was "Jackpot"....

So, I guess casinos are going to be pissed now. Linking "Jackpot" and Bin Laden...how offensive to the proud heritage of the slot machine.

I guess Indian Casinos will be doubly-pissed. LOL

    Re: Geronimo!

Being a native American myself, it doesn't bother me anymore than saying catholic priests rape 5yr old boys does a catholic.

The callsign could have easily been, John Paul, and Rapist could have been osama.

    Re: Geronimo!

When you look at the actual history behind Geronimo....if I remember correctly from school....Geronimo fought the Mexicans and the Americans aggression against his land/people. After some of his family members were killed by the Mexican Army, he went on some "revenge" attacks against them, and eventually the U.S. (I think that's halfway right, like I said, from memory here.)

In such case, naming the mission "Geronimo" isn't such a bad thing is it? In similar fashion, we were on a revenge mission against Bin Laden, after attacks on our family/land. Isn't "Geronimo" kind of fitting? Again, Bin Laden was "Jackpot"....not "Geronimo"...

I just don't see the issue. It was a simple code name for a mission, which appears (at least at my evaluation here) to have some historic context behind it....it wasn't about trying to stereotype or offend people.

Sign of the times, man. Like a certain talk show guy says, our country has become the united states of the offended.
