i have fished there before that road *****

Went out from 7:30 AM to about 2 PM between both lakes with a couple of buddies
First was Starve Hollow. was a below average trip there... with the cold snap we had from the night before locked them up I think. Caught 4 between all of us. I got one on a jig and one on a rattle both about 1lb. My buddy caught a 1lber on a swimbait. My cousin caught 1 on a plastic craw. That lake is usually good for 40+ 10in bass in a 4 hour session. All of them were light in color (sign of cooler water temps)
Went over to John Hay, first time there and all I can say is I would hate to meet a boat the last half mile before getting to the ramp as its only 1 way on a windy gravel road in the middle of the woods. only fished on section and managed to land a 2.5 lb one on a 6in Salamander.
Overall I wont complain with how terrible the weather was.

The light color is more due to the amount of sun the fish has been exposed to. Fish in deep water or muddy water tend to have the lighter coloring......kind of like a tan for humans.
Thanks for the correction Roberts. I always associated the light coloring with cooler fish.
Paul, next time you and your wife go to salem we should head out there. I liked the place.
i'll bring the boat
You have to get a special permit to fish there btw. I did not know that so I apologize to the people of salem on this forum. Its owned by the city/county and not the state. heres the link to the permit form, Im going to see if I can pay and fax. http://www.cityofsalemin.com/PDF/BoatLaunch.pdf
Starve Hollow is pretty good for catching numbers, Ive been told by alot of people it has a nice hold of lunkers.
both lakes are within 15 to 20 minutes of each other.
You can also buy the permit from the police dept 24 hrs a day. They are located on teh square......cant miss them.
Later,
Geo
