    Cool Changing Impeller

Has anyone changed an impeller on their Mercury outboard I am thinking of
trying to do it myself. I have a 40hp Mercury 2 stroke.
Just curios if you folks thought it was a good Idea

    any thoughts appreciated.

Look on you tube about changing it. I did mine myself last year and it was pretty simple. Remember one thing when you drop the lower unit and if it is in gear, put it back in nuetral by the little stub in front of the impellar, dont take the sleeve off leave it on and take a rag or something to cover it and turn it from oneside to another until the prop quits ticking like when you kill your engine on the water like it is in gear. When putting the lower unit back up into the motor after lining every thing up have the cowling off and if it stops and doesnt go all the way up take your hand and I mine just bump or turn the flywheel alittle and it should go right up. If you leave the lower unit in gear and you slide it up and start putting it all together and get done and turn the prop and it is ticking you have to drop the lower unit out and put it in nuetral and slide it up again ( I did it ) if you have any questions call mercury and they will help you out. Ask for the main guy that is in the customer service that sits in on meetings and other stuff important to mercury, he is also one of there mechanics. Hope it all goes well and like I said watch you tube it will help you without going in blind.
