I will let you know what I hearfeom Canoe Ky when I call them today. You are more than welcome to come fishing with us if you want.
If Canoe Ky. shuts you down (doubtful) I'll be there with boats or boat for you. I have trip planned on the Russell Fork this weekend, but I think I could squeeze in the Elkhorn to keep your trip a float. Your gonna love it. Thanks for invite.

I just got off the phone with Canoe Ky and they said creek looked good. I reserved a spot to go on the 6 mile trip tomorrow, hopefully there is some good fishing on this segment. Thanks for your help, I look forward to catching some smallmouth tomorrow.

Hope you have a blast. Take time to work those gravel bars and take some deep runners with you also for the pools.

How deep do the pools get? I have a plano box filled up with a few jerk baits, some rapalas, some rebel crawfish cranks, bitsy tubes, and grubs. I'm half tempted to take some of the 3" hammerhead swimbaits that I caught all the smallies on Dale with too.

Not sure how deep pools are I never got out of canoe. Threw deep diving #5 shad raps and had no problem. Altough they don't dive but 4 or 5 ft. Just saying don't concentrate on tiny to much you'll figure out what works.

    Re: Elkhorn Creek

My buddy and I did the 6-mile kayak fishing float yesterday from Canoe Ky. There are very helpful and do a great job. We launched about 10:30 am and it took a little while for us to get used to fishing from a kayak, caught a few short ones right away though. We went thru one set of small riffles and I had turned myself too early and managed to flip the kayak over and soaked myself, and lost 2 fishing rods. However, after the flip, is when we started catching more fish. Ended up catching about 30 fish total between the 2 of us, biggest fish was around 15". It took us half the trip to figure out what they were wanting and how they were wanting it. I caught most of my fish on a small Rapala jerkbait and they were pretty much tearing it up as soon as it hit the water and I barely twitched it once. I did hook a better fish near the end of the trip that got off right by the boat, he would have probably been about 17". All in all, it was a good trip.

Good deal! Everything and more for your trip. We use the phrase "swimming club" and sounds like you joined it. Everyone needs to flip and experiance the feel at least once so one knows what to expect.

How is the water temp? A buddy and I are planning on hitting up Elkhorn in Frankfort Saturday morning, should we throw top water or stick with the deeper stuff?

Lets put it this way, the water felt warmer than the air temperature the other day. I didn't have any way to read what the temp was though. When I finally figured things out the other day, I caught the better fish on a small rapala jerkbait and the bigger fish were hitting it off the first twitch on top of the water.

Just got back from Switzer Bridge, threw a little bit of everything, had a hit on a spook and a pop'r. The fish didnt seem to eager to do much of anything. Water looked good though, a little high and faster than normal but overall had a good green tint to it. Will try again Saturday morning!
