    Removing rainbow trout limits

Did the state of Kentucky ever think about taking the limit of rainbow trout havested from certain small lakes in Kentucky after say after the middle of June. There are many small shallow lakes that are stocked during the winter months with trout to be caught and kept to eat. As the water warms up the trout will die in the shallow lakes. Why not put a unlimited amount that can be kept per day after a certain date. Let the fisherman who pay for the raising of the trout to havest them instead of letting them die. Anybody have any imput to this suggestion?????

I am all for that idea...the only downside I can think of is that many people might confuse the two limits and the time when they can keep more fish...thus causing buckets full of trout being taking out during the prime season. You are right on about the trout just being left in these small, shallow, warm ponds/lakes to die...so it would be MUCH better if the sportsman was able to harvest these fish, say starting in MAY, when water temps are starting to climb to high for trout to live comfortably. I would be in favor of a limit increase, not a unlimited harvest. Say, go to 15 trout per license holder? Good idea though.

Can't say I've ever seen a stocked trout lake with a massive trout die off. What do you consider a shallow lake? Any lake in particular that you are talking about?

To provide another opportunity for people to catch fish that are easily harvestable.

I would say the trout stocking program gets abused enough as it is. People with no trout stamp taking trout and taking a lot more than the limit. Removing the limit would just make them open season anytime. Trout already seem to disappear fast enough with the current limits.

At waverly park it happens every year. The trout that do last die off in about june/july. The lake just had dead trout all over it.
Half the people who fish there dont even know what a trout liscense is either or that there is a limit for the fish. But people never come up there to check for your liscense. In my expierence of fishing there for about 6 years now i have been carded once.

I live in Northern Kentucky and I know one lake that is stocked with trout in the spring is no more than 7 feet deep. Once the temperature ris the trout die. You donm't have to see trout floating to know they will die. I am sure the lake reaches over 80 degrees in the summer. Trout DON'T live in warm or hot water.

Hence the reason they don't stock it in the summer months!
