    I would not put a 225 hp Optimax on a 12' jon.

Other than that yes. Even an electric trolling motor on the 12' jon needs to be licensed. 9' two man bass bug + 36lb Minnkota=licensed with Ky number.

Good news is it is cheap. My 11' coleman crawdad with a 45lb motorguide costs about $15.00 to license.

Now this rule is not uniformly enforced. I see bass bugs all the time without numbers and the game warden not saying anything about it. I think they give leeway on this.

I licensed mine because I am the guy that will run into the one game warden, water patrol officer that goes strickly by the book. If there is a 40 acre parking lot with one nail in it you can be sure that I will pick it up in my tire.

Yep. Gas or electric, doesn't matter...a motor is a motor.

    Re: QUESTION ?????

If it is a larger boat it can be documented with the coast guard and it does not need state license.

    Re: QUESTION ?????

Around 10-12 years ago I had a 12ft jon that I used for ponds and small bodies of public water. My boat only had an eletric motor and I had to licsene it in order to use it on plublic water. At the time they offered an eletric motor licesne that was a few bucks cheaper than a regular liscene...that was 10-12 years ago so I do not know if they still offer an eletric motor liscene so you may want to check into that if all you plan on using is a trolling motor.

I eventually upgraded to a 2hp gas motor and had to buy a regular boat liscene.

    Re: QUESTION ?????

Correct me if I'm wrong ,but on my 10' jon boat when the law was passed to include any motor ( use to read internal combustion engines ) I first needed a title. Got my title then got my tag. Now I pay taxes and tag.
