I hit Monroe yesterday afternoon for a few hours, thought I'd report what I found. Water is still about 12-15 feet high, docks at Fairfax are still not in. Had to Launch and "Beach" the Lund on the rip-rap.
Water on that end of the lake was fairly clear but somewhat stained, and I found mostly 64-66 degrees. Graph showed fish stacked on the breaks, not sure what kind of fish but I couldn't get them to go on a vertically jigged grub or Gulp minnow. Cast into the trees and trolled the breaks but no takers.
On my way back to the ramp around 6 I spotted Wipers busting shad and got in on some fun Wiper action with a rattle trap. Ended up losing two and boating one about 6lbs. Great day, no wind, gnats were everywhere and driving me crazy, but a beauty of a day to be out.
The main part of the spawn is coming to an end and its a little hard to fish out of a bigger boat right now. The fish (some, not all) are up in the flooded trees. Guys are catching them spawning, topwaters, cruisers, a lot of ways.....typical spawn/postspawn. I have struggled lately, only one keeper my last time out....but I only fished about 2 hrs. Any of you guys want to share how, not where you are catching them on Monroe?
