    New to Kentucky!!! Please help!!!

Hey I'm originally from caliornia and I just moved to Louisville because my girlfriend is from here. I was stationed in the south for a while and we noes back because we both agreed we wanted our children to grow up here. Anyways I've been tryin out a few places for largemouth bass fishing but the all seem kind of pathetic and waaayyy over fished. (Mcneely, long run, miles) and I went to taylorsville which was awesome. Caught a nice bass on like my third cast but I don have a boat and there was like no shore accsess... That I know of. Anyways was hopin some one could help me out and tell me some good places with shore access around Louisville that has good bass fishing. I don't mind hiking in either if there are some remote places... That would be even better. Thanks and good luck everybody.

Welcome to the board Matt and thank you for your service.

There are several public waters near Louisville that the state manages for fishing, but as to be expected, the fishing is much tougher in these areas because they see a lot of fishing pressure.

The KDFWR has a program called FIN's that stands for Fishing in Neighborhoods and these lakes are stocked with various species. To find out more you can visit their website at www.fw.ky.gov

We also have some really good smallmouth streams in and around Louisville that you might want to check out. You can search these through the same link.

Good luck and welcome to the site....wearing hip boots when reading this board is optional, but reccomended for the amount of BS. After all, we are fishermen!

Get a kayak or a small boat that you can lug around. It would open some doors to different waters. The places you mentioned are tough, if you don't have a boat. I take a little 10 ft jon boat to McNeely quite a bit and do well along the bank opposite of the park. You could even paddle around in Harrods Creek and get in on those bass.

If a little boat isn't an option, I think the best deal for the bank fisherman is the Jefferson Co. Sportsmen's Club
    http://www.jc-sc.com/
$135 per year for the whole family to enjoy
37 acre lake with some really nice bass in it - well maintained and kid friendly with a playground nearby
indoor pistol range, outdoor archery range, weekly trap shoots, camping area

Army, 82nd airborne division, 2-505 PIR combat medic. Any good areas in Lexington. I'm willing to make trips on the weekend. I just don't want
to travel around like I have been and go 7 day trips and 2 bass. Lol. Tanks everybody else too. Don't have much smallmouth out west but I'm willing to try it out, I mean a bass is a bass right? Lol. Plus I've heard they fight like twice their weight so that could be fun. Gonna have to do some research. Any river in peticular that's consistently good?

Evangel church off Preston Highway. I forget name of road,,,,maybe Minors Ln. 2 real nice size ponds back in there catch lots of bass, cats, bluegills and even some crappie.
It is a old slate rock quarry that (from old mans fishing tale) hit a natural water spring and filled with water. Fisherman's tale is that all the heavy equipment is still at the bottom!
Go out there to the big pond which is pretty much a lake and cast out some crank baits. Usually beautiful clear water.

I was a member for two years, when I didn't have boat here in Louisville. I think they've made some improvements since I've been out there, but it was very nice back then even before the improvements.

I liked it - can pretty well walk around the majority of the lake. There's a playground for the kids, lots of open grass areas for them to play as well. I would think for a guy that wanted to fish, and let the kids play on their own while doing so, it would be perfect.

I wanted to get in on the weekly trap shoots, but my schedule never allowed it back then with school and studying. Looked like a lot of fun!

I think it's a bargain really, and there's some really good bass in that lake!
