Has Fish and Wildlife given up on Cedar Creek?

Went there by myself today and got to the 150 ramp around 4:00 p.m. Big Stratos blocking the left most of the ramp so he could clean off boat and load stuff. Another guy just putting in has the other two lanes blocked.

Wait for about 5 minutes or so and am able to launch... not a huge deal but still pretty disrespectful.

I go down by the shorter cove two back from the single ramp and start fishing. About 20 minutes later (after three, yes three boats ignoring the no wake buoy go by) a boat pulls up about 15 feet from while i'm in the middle of landing a small bass and just starts fishing there next to me. This pisses me off because even though I have seen it mentioned here, it has never happened to me before today. I head to another cove only to realize that there are about thirty of the catfish ( I think) float jigs all out in the main channel that I have to go around. On the way to the next cove a rather speedy white runabout just turbos past every one and heads back to the ramp.

I have been fishing Cedar for about 4 years now and really enjoy the lake but it has seriously turned into an apathetic playground.

I have not seen fish and wildlife for almost two years now down there and I used to see them pretty frequently. Just a dang shame.

You're right to a degree! All Lakes right now have some pleasure boating as well as the typical rude behavior from the uhh "Buckeye" navy. But what goes on at Cedar Creek is whole other ball game! It really is a runaway circus/Zoo over there and I would say that by the end of summer someone is gonna drown over there or at least get in a good fist fight in the parking lot. F&W created that lake they need to step up and enforce the rules/laws!

Other than the fact that the other lakes are bigger I don't really see a difference in behavior myself. Guess a lot of folks thought it would be some kind of sancturary or something when in fact it's been way over hyped to bring in fishermen in which means money to the local economy. Think it's just a lot more noticable because it is such a small lake myself.

Les, you hit the nail on the head!! I live close enough to fish it alot and have no more bad experiences there than at Green or Herrington and considering the lake size.....No matter...soon there will be regulations. Amazing of how folks are stereotyped (ex: tourney fisherman, guys in bass boats, being rude). I fish for fun more than I fish tourneys, I have a bass boat, and I'm not rude......Shame that a few will ruin it for most.

    Later,

    Tim

CC should be pumping out doube digits by now at the rate that it doesnt even raise an eyebrow. The original stock fish are old enough, they have more potential than any year class that will follow, and the lake will never be more fertile.

Failed experiment. Vigorously raped on a daily basis by hundreds. Now, if we had 30,000 acres added to it, it would be hotter than falcon right now. Its an 800acre tank, what did they expect?

Re: Has Fish and Wildlife given up on Cedar Creek?

When I first read this post it got me to thinking. I to enjoy fishing Cedar Creek and had all of the above happen to me. I think when I have seen it all, someone shows me I have not. I think that some of problems is the fact that people just dont know any better. The lake was built and people that never owned a boat went out and bought one to enjoy the lake. They went out handed someone cash money or took out a huge loan and someone handed them a set of keys and told them have a good time. It seemed like a good idea to them I guess. I can drive a car, so I can drive a boat!! All of us seasoned boat owner's know better then to do what is being done to us, but at time's the quest for that huge bass clouds our judgment at times I do think. But any way, as I recall when Cedar Creek was just in its planning stage and helped get off the ground by KDFWL, I do remember someone from KDFWL saying that after so many years that that the lake would be turned over to Lincoln County or the city of Stanford, dont remember which one and it would be up to them to manage the lake. I dont know if this happened or not. I am just wondering should some of the problem with the lake be brought up to the Cedar Creek Sportsmans Club and see if this organazation could help in clearing up some of the ploblems with the lake befour some is killed because someone did not know better. The last I heard this club had a good working relationship with Fish and Wildlife. Maybe this organazation could put on class's on the line of a boater safety, fishing etiquette, boat mantance, life saving, ect. I would like to these class's taught by Fish and Wildlife. If any one on here is a member of this club, please chime in if I am way off base in asking this club for help with the lake.

I now have to take a nap, to much thinking on my part.

    Billy

Don't know if it's true or not, but I was told just last week that plans were in the works to annex Cedar Creek Lake in with the city of Crab Orchard. If this happens it's untelling what the lake will become. I certainly hope the KDFW keeps it or it's a lost cause for sure.
