Just had my lower unit replaced about a month ago from hitting an underwater obstruction....Was almost completely through with the break in period when tonight I'm out fishing and start to sit my boat up on pad and hear that terrible noise of a hub spinning, so I thought.....I trimmed my motor up and be danged if the prop wasnt gone....The prop shaft had broke completely down inside the lower unit....So now the prop and the rest of the prop shaft are laying somewhere out in 30ft...This is really frustrating
ouch...never even heard of that happening
nobody i've talked to has....clean break through 3" solid steel rod....guess its just my luck
mmm, shoudnt be anywhere near 3 inches, but still, that shouldnt happen unless it got damaged by hittin somethin
It's probably a lot smaller was just kinda irritated....I've literally only had the boat out maybe 7 or 8 times since i've had it back and I've not hit anything for sure....it was obviously bad from the factory because you could see a dark spot in the steel where it was probably weak
yeah, sounds like a blem or a crack that was there since it was made.
had a guy throw an interesting thought at me....he said if you leave the prop loose it will vibrate enough to crack the shaft....maybe the guy who put my lower unit on left the prop a little loose
yeah, im not buyin that...even if it was loose.under load its still on splines. and i would hope your mechanic could use a torque wrench...lol.
