I just tried to take some photos of the fly. Here is the best one I could get. I only have the one fly and it has probably been through 40 fish in two days of fishing, so it looks a little rough.

I fished with Jack from Bass Pro last week in Indiana and he gave me a fly to use. He called it a Kreel Minnow and it is designed by Mossy Creek Fly Fishing. They call it Brass Eyed Kreelex. It is tied similar to a Clouser, but has two different tie in areas and it uses a material called Kreinik Flash. According to Jack, the material is hard to find but you can get it at mossycreekstore.com.
This fly could be the most versatile fly I have used. I fished it with Jack on Friday and caught plentyh of large bluegill and some decent bass including one about 16 inches and about 3 pounds.
I took the same fly to a local pond for a few hours yesterday evening and caught a ton of fish. Here are some photos from yesterday.

Only caught one fish on the surface, despite seeing lots of surface activity in the evening.

Tim, congrats on slipping off to the pond and catching a few. Also, thanks to you and Jack for sharing the Brass Eyed Kreelex. It caught my interest and I jumped on Google and found a video illustrating how to tie the pattern:

While I don't have their materials, thinking I might tie a few using the flash materials I have. (Gees, a guy could spend his whole retirement $$ on fly materials and still not have what he needs to tie this or that pattern!!)
Thanks Tim,
PS, since I don't have any ponds nearby, might need to send you any flies that I might tie for FIELD TESTING.......
What hook size would you suggest?
Gary, thanks for the offer. I am trying to decide if I want to order the material or just order the flies LOL! I am telling you, these things work great. I am going to give it a try at Otter Creek in the morning. Let me know if you want me to field test yours for you. I need a patch that says "Boone Flies, official field tester" or maybe a sponsor jersey!![]()
Might be a bit early for the jersey, as last time I checked with the wife, my fly fishing equates to a NON PROFIT enterprise. HOWEVER, once I read your post, I couldn't wait and jumped on that pattern like a big bird on a snake! Went to the internet, found a pattern and tied up 4 of those using my flash materials.Gary, thanks for the offer. I am trying to decide if I want to order the material or just order the flies LOL! Tied all on a #10 TMC 8089 hook. On the first, used Polarflash-Silver for the body and wing and Krystal Flash Root Beer for the beard. Photo below.
On the second, I substituted Polarflash Cream for the body. (not a whole lot of difference to my eye) No photo.
and on the third, I used Polarflash -Silver for the body, Krystal Flash Paecock/ pearl for the wing and Monoflash Hot Orange for the beard. No Photo

Now that I have tied these patterns, I think I like the number 3 better, but now realize I should have reversed the pattern from top to bottom. Dummy, with the bar bells, the fly runs upside down!!!!!!!, so I wanted green on top and orange on the bottom......?????
So, back to the bench, but not to worry Tim, the quote..quote original is in the mail for FIELD TESTING.
Boone that's a nice looking fly. Everyone ties that type of fly upside down at least a few times. It's part of the process. I remember being very proud of a crawdad imitation that I tied with great effort until I realized I tied it upside-down.
Thanks to you and Tim for the info.
Thanks for the kind words. Just starting out tying and enjoy sharing as well as receiving patterns the bring fish to hand.![]()
That looks good Boone, I can't wait to field test them and then you can sell them in a catalog with the saying "These flies have been through extensive field testing by our staff of small stream fly rod anglers"![]()
Btw, the new fly also catches smallmouth, spots and rainbows after hitting Otter Creek for five hours today. I have fished Otter Creek literally hundreds of times and today was the first spotted bass I have caught from there. It was about 10 inches long, but was clearly a spotted bass.
