I have decided too get a hand held GPS.Who makes the best for the buck?Thanks for any help..................

Depending on whether or not you plan on using it primarily for fishing, Garmin or DeLorme are two brands I prefer for handheld units. DeLorme's will run Navionics maps if you plan on strictly using it on lakes/major rivers (suggest the PN-60 which retails for $299). Garmin also makes some good handhelds, but lake maps are as good as Navionics...and topo maps are more expensive. HOWEVER, they are somewhat easier to use (check out the Oregon 450 for a "stupid proof" unit). If you just want something to get you from point A to B, and not get lost, then the Garmin Venture HC is an excellent unit for the money.

I prefer Garmin over all the others. They just seem to be the most user friendly.

What i'm going too use it for is on the creeks.rivers etc too know the distance from A to B This way i will beable too plan the trips better & of course too mark spots i catch bass too.I don't want too be late checking in during tournaments.

Look into the Lowrance H20 C. Tough to beat. I have used it on many lake trips, as well as trips to Red River Gorge, Big South Fork, and the Rockcastle River for the applications you will be fishing.

If you plan on running the distance first, and then check to see the distance traveled, the Garmin Venture HC will work fine. The problem with the Lowrance IFinder series is that they worked great...then Lowrance discontinued them. Otherwise, that would have suited your purpose. But if you want to scout out an area ahead of time, then topo maps would be something to consider so that they show how the creeks and stuff run.
