    What the hellz a diddymo?

For the most part otter creek water stay's very cold all summer long, I do remember checking the temp in july some 30 years ago and it was 58F. on the surface. I was tring to fish for large mouth but had no luck and figure the water was too cold for fish to live in. I'm really surprised you have not caught any walleye or sauger in there yet..

BTW, I asusme we should be careful when wading in Otter Creek not to transport this to another stream via wading boots, etc.? How long can it live outside of water?

Are you sure you were reading the temp right? I got surface temperatures there this July as high as 84 near the blue hole. Heck I get surface temps in the low 60's in Little River in the Smoky Mountains in May while we are threre for Troutfest, and this is a cold water stream.

I have caught sauger in there several times in the spring downstream at the blue hole. No walleye though. Largemouth bass are fairly rare in there but there are some spotted bass in there and lots of smallies.

I don't know where the blue hole is. I was closer to Hwy 60 then. I do remember swimming at otter creek park when I was a kid and the water was ice cold then. Is the blue hole close to the ohio river? This was before they put in the new HWY60 bridge.

Can you access the creek Via HWY 60 bridge or is that in Fort Knox? I was wanting to find another spot to fish when the park is closed. I tend to be off work on Mondays and Tuesdays unfortunately.

The blue hole is in the park, downstream from the 1638 bridge about 2 1/2 miles.

Banjodale, the area you are talking about at Camp Carlson is on post and you will need to go to hunt control and get a post fishing permit.

My son was at blue hole and said he had a fish chase his lure , He said the fish was 10 inches long white body and 3 brown stripes that go from the top of the back to the belly. Do you know what this is?

Not sure what that would be without seeing it. There are some sculpins (at least I think that is what they are) that have markings like that. It could also be a sauger, although the splotches are not brown on them, but might look that way underwater.

I showed him some under water pics of walleye and he said that is what they looked like. He said there was a big school of them...

    Re: Otter Creek didymo?

In the cooler months I almost always catch a sauger down in those pools around the blue hole. Always small and never more than one a trip, but they do come up in there. I would say the closer to the river you get the more different species you would be likely to catch. Someday I am going to fish that lwoer stretch, but haven't done so yet.

Went yesterday evening for a couple of hours before dark and caught one bluegill on a curly tail grub fished on a 1/16 ounce jig head. Not another bite. Tried a little topwater, some small tubes and even a the smaller version of the Sweet Beaver with no success. My buddy caught one 8 inch smallie on a tube. Water is LOW and CLEAR, hopefully this rain will help. Didn't take a temp reading, but water was noticeably cooler than a week ago.
