I just got back. We went out for 4 hours this morning ended up with 20 all sm. Went out of Miller Marina between 10 and 11 mile Roads, the locals call it "The Mile Roads" area. We just went straight out to 10-12' and found the grass and dragged tubes and curly tail grubs. We ran into two guys from Paris, KY and they did the same thing we did fished for 4 hours before heading back. They caught 20 each. They said they had 60 there yesterday! Yesterday (Sat) my dad and I went out of Metro Beach, about 6-7 miles North. We caught 86 LM and SM, probably more LM than SM in anywhere from 6-9'. baits were rattletrap, tube, and a Kalins grub. If we count all the white bass, pike, drum, and rock bass, we caught around 140 fish on sat. All we did here was come out of Metro and drifted with the wind and just hit pockets of grass anywhere from 1/2-2 miles offshore, we don't really fish any banks like you would think of on southern lakes. The day before (Fri) we only had 22 sm we fished out of the mile roads and the wind was 15-25mph and we just moved so fast it was hard to fish! But thats all we really did! Its not difficult to figure out, its an unreal fishery, you'll figure it out in a day where the fish are, They WILL let you know when you've got it right!

Awesome smallmouth I want to go to this lake and fish so bad it hurts. We have nothing here to even compare to St Clair, one of the best smallmouth lakes in the country right now, if not THE best.

What was the average weight of the smallies you caught? Were most of those fish pre or post spawn? Where is a good place to stay for a week, nothing fancy. In your opinion, what is the best time to go as far as size?

We caught 1 or 2 legit 4 pounders, and the just 1 or 2 under 2 pounds. The avg was probably 3-3 1/2 pounds! All of the SM were post spawn. There is a red roof inn off of I-94 in Roseville and it runs $60/night. I think the best times for the Giant prespawn fish would be May, but June-Aug is hot fishing. They move out to 11-15 fow and pack up in schools.
