Elnut, another option is to purchase one of the soft sided rooftop carriers. They are made of a vinyl coated type canvas and are waterproof. Amazon has them from $40.00 to $50.00 bucks.

The big advantage with the soft side carries over the hard shell carriers is that you can fold the soft side carrier up to store it. Believe me thats a BIG plus (and they are cheap).

Might try wally world or Kmart as well. Use the Amazon price as a guide.

Tim, a 1995 Mercury sounds like a really good camping vehicle.

Reminds me of an article I read years ago in the National Lampoon.

They did a Consumer Reports article on the Best Off Road Vehicle.

They tested several models and found the best Off Road Vehicle was a rented Chevy Impalla.

In their tests they found they could drive the rented Chevy through the thickest bush and even right into the lake. The SUV they purchased would not go into most of the areas they drove the rented Chevy into.

Honestly, It is great on gas and I can make plenty of room for everyone. I don't drive the truck unless I have to.
