Barkley is just a stones throw away. You can fish those tailwaters if you want to fish below a dam.
If you want to catch some catfish you can fish the canal and the rip rap there.

First I would like to thank everyone for the tips I got on where to stay and eat on my anniversary. My wife is excited. I am boatless and but would still like to do some bank fishing for any type of fish. I have never been to KY lake and have no idea where to bank fish. Read in the Fishing Forcast that the tailwater areas are under construction and bank access would be very limited. Thanks again.

The canal is a nice place to fish for catfish.
I like the KY Dam paddle boat area/walkway for bluegill. It's kid/wife friendly too, because they can sit and watch from the concrete walkway instead of climbing on the rocks.
Fishing below the dam is an experience you must try sometime, whether it's Ky Dam or Barkley. Skipjack are a lot of fun to catch on light tackle, and there's no shortage of them. Any old curly tail grub will work on those, but I prefer white. Below Ky Dam there's a circular concrete platform in the water that you can fish from, even though there's a sign saying "do not enter" for liability purposes, since a lot of the handrail is missing. I've caught white bass and stripers from that platform in the fall.
You can fish in the Ky Dam Marina. There are some good places in there to fish.
You can fish the rip rap at moors marina and 68 bridge in jonathon creek.
Back from my trip and again thanks for the tips. I fished mostly at the 68 Bridge area at Jonathan Creek. My wife and I caught bass and crappie. The only problem was it was always packed on the shore with between 3-8 people there. There were always at least 2-5 boats there also. Enjoyed it though and also tried a few other spots with not a lot of success. During my tourny we did catch some in the KY Dam Marina area.
