It really depends on what you want to spend. With baitcasters, you are going to get what you pay for. Bass Pro sells the Pro Qualifier sometimes for $79.99. I have a few of them and I would recommend them, they are great reels. Bass Pro also sells Tourney Spectial and Bionic Blade rods, 50$ and 80$. Again, sometimes the Bionic Blades are on sale, but I don't think they are right now. However, the Bass Pro graphite series rods are on sale, and they are a great value for the price right now ($20). I would get a 6' or 6'6" rod in M or MH action. I would recommend getting mono not braid, since you are likely going to birdsnest the reel a lot learning how to cast it, and braid is much more expensive. Try out Sunline in 14lb test, this is also sold at Bass Pro.
HOWEVER, if you want a good set up for cheap, I would go with the Diawa Strikeforce/Graphite Series rod combo at Bass Pro. As I already said, the rod is a solid value, and the reel preforms very well. It is currently priced at $64.99.
