Holes in hull

How hard is it to get these fixed? And most important how expensive? I know it varies on size and where its at, but just looking for general info.

It will all depened on what type of hole, where it is, and how you want it to look afterwards. Is it above or below the waterline? Is it below or below the level of the floor. Is this a new boat that you want to restore to perfect condition or is it an older boat that you aren't too concerned if the patch is noticable?

I got a crack in my hull last year and was given the quote of $3,400 to take the floor out, fix the crack, and put the floor back in.

On my first boat, a 16 foot fiberglass runabout, I was replacing the floor and ended up cutting a large hole all the way through the hull. I fixed that for about $100 in materials. The hole was located under the boat where no one could see it, so after fixing the fiberglass I just used some spray paint to blend the color close.

So the price range is pretty large depending on what you are wanting.

My first bass boat was an older one. After using for a while, I kept noticing that water was coming in somewhere. I looked and looked and couldn't see it while it was on the trailer. One day while swimming and feeling around on the hull, I found two screws sticking out that I hadn't been able to see due to the trailer bunks. The goof ball that had the boat before me apparently used some screws that were way too long to screw down the battery box.....so I had to take those out and patch the holes. I used the Bond-o Marine Fiberglass repair stuff and it never leaked again in the 7 years that I owned it.

I can't remember which Bond-o product I bought, but it did not have the glass matt with it - the fibers were already in it. All I had to do was mix it up, roll it into a ball, shove what I could in the hole and then spread out the extra around the hole to make it stick. It was a gray color, which was the color of my hull anyways.

If you can't find out where your boat is leaking, try filling it up with water in your driveway while on the trailer. You should have no problem finding the leak. After you find the leak , mark it and open you drain plug. Fixing it ,with all the products on the market now, should be no problem.

If it is not too big of a hole you can use Marine Tex to fix it. I have used it before in the past and it works great.

I forgot be sure that the glass is dry other wise the repair will fall out.
