    Re: A different catfish question

the head is always the best part and then the mid section if its 6 in i cut it into 3 or 4 pieces but i use all of the bluegill even the tail. but my favorite for big cats is a 3 or four in live bluegill hook it right in front of the tail towards the back throw a sinker on and let it flop around on the bottom big cats cant resist fish in distress.i like using big hooks but if you get an assorted paskage of eagle claw hooks at walmart that come with the leder atached you want to use the biggest ones in the package or i use 10/0 heavy hooks by eagle claw stay awy from the bronze if your going after 20lb plus cats. the good thing about cut bait is it dosnt get pecked off like worms and liver good luck let me know if you want to take someone with u to that honey hole lol

Don't cut them at all, use the whole thing. Cutbait catches fish, whole BIG pieces of bait catch BIG fish. I was taught by the master and I am a firm believer in what I just told you. We use Gizzard shad on the river 15 and 16 inches long. We use Skipjacks and mooneyes longer than that, trust me....

I will add this though. If you are after numbers and lots of bites, go with the cutbait. But if you want the ones that can break your equipment and kick your butt once you get them in the boat do what I said above...

Sinker size also depends upon current. Obviously more means heavier.

I am big believer in circle hooks. But the one drawback I have found with them is the ability to use a big wad of bait. The stout ones just don't seem to have the gap necessary for a big wad of cut bait.

I like to use the meaty gutty center for cutbait but will use it all except the tail. The ttail will catch current and twist your line. If I am running a trotline I put a little of everything on it, both live bluegills and cut ones.

Even a small channel can eat a 1"x1" chunk of bluegill. I wouldn't be concerned with having a chunk too big.

He is right go big or go home.
Big skippies get cut, cut gut pocket out save it, fillet side meet, cut head off.
gut pocket held together with 8/0 octopus, gets alot of dinks but when mamma comes hold on. Head hook through lips so current does not drag it have got anything from a 15 lb blue to a 50 lb. Fillet you never know what your going to get. Sinker size depends on current. I fish from a boat so enough so the clicker will hold.

    Re: A different catfish question

What size sinker do you use to hold down a 6" bluegill? Do you use the ones that let the line run or are they attached to the line?
