    Inline spinner problem

I've fished with Rooster Tails all my life and just got tired of them not spinning. I hadn't used them for years. This year I bought 4-5 more and 5-6 of the Blue Fox inline spinners. The dang things don't spin 80% of the time. Are you guys seeing this too? That's why I used bettle spins for the last 10 yrs. I know you have to give them a jerk to get them started but nothing I do will get them to work reliably.

    Any advice?

Only time I have trouble is if the shaft gets bent from fighting a fish. Usually I can bend it back semi-straight.

I think I use 12 lb line...nothing real heavy. As for being bent...all of them are brand spanking new.....8 of them never been tied on....5 have been tested. After reading about the hybrids biting at Taylorsville on these, I am hoping to get to use these tomorrow. I haven't read where you can many of these on beetle spins...only inlines.

I've never known a hybrid to pass up a blue/chrome rattle trap, or a white lead spoon. I usually always have one of those on deck if hybrids are near - the long casting ability of either definitely comes in hand if they start busting on top in the distance.

I use 6 lb. and can crank that thing ever so slowly and still get the spin. Every now and then I'll get a dud that wont corporate. Very seldom though and thats from 1/16 to 1/4oz.

what do you do when you get a dud?? Toss it, tweak it, or try something else?

    Re: Inline spinner problem

I have problem with mine sometimes. I use them on 4 lb test line on an ultra lite, so line weight is not an issue. I can usually feel it spinning threw my rod, and if i can feel it not spinning i just stop reeling and let it fall for a second. That usually raises the spoon enough up for when i start reeling again, it will spin. And dont be catching all them hybrids out at T-Ville!! Save some for me!!! Now that I know there are no stripers I am going to head back and catch me a boat load of them things.

Try to tweak it, sometimes it may need spread out or in the part that spins on the shaft. If not take it to Walmart they should replace it. Haven't tried the last one, but it should work. Haven't had a dud in a long time. Don't see how line could be a problem unless your retrieve\ratio is to slow? It may I'm not sure. I take caution when opening them up as a "little bow and they won't go." When all else fails tie on a rooster tail!

I used to use a swivel for quick bait changes, and had the same problem. The swivel swiveled and the bait didn't spin.

    Re: Inline spinner problem

I used to have this problem until I learned the solution. I switched to Panther Martins. These are at least as productive as rooster tails, and I've never had one fail to spin unless it was clumped up with grass or algae. They are great and bass & panfish will tear them up.

    Re: Inline spinner problem

Well, getting a littel late start today. As soon as I wake my boy up after this cup of coffee, we're gonna head out. First time I've had my boat out this year between the rain and building a new house. I'll keep the Panther Martin spinners in mind if the don't work today. This will be my first time going after hybrids. Taking the jugs along too in case they aren't hitting or I'm not doing it right b/c the last thing I want is my 7 yr old bored.
