Trolling the CR below Wolf Creek Dam

I know, the flow is around 20,000 cfs +, and that's a lot of current, but also with the raised river level, I'm a thinking my deep V Lund can prowl that river. So, thinking about Stripers early in the AM, then trout and walleye latter in the day. BUT NEVER DONE IT!

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.......

Go for it!!! Nothing ventured nothing gained. Use to see people dragging baits all the time before repair work began.

Coombro, do you think there are any decent stripers left in the CR after all the trauma the CR has been through with repairs on the dam? I know KDFWFR survey's have confirmed a significant diminish in the the quality and quantitly of trout in the CR. Just don't know if this goes across the board to all species in the tailwaters.

PS, could be in need of a good First Mate who knows the CR...

You might want to check it out It sounds very encouraging so far as stripers and big browns on the CR. Becareful out there don't get your arm broke!

Trolling shad raps with the crawfish color has always worked well. use the ones that run about 9 ft deep. Agood tip is to remove the front treble hook, most shags are the front hook. Troll as close to the shore as you can comfortably get, that honda four stroke should put you in good trolling speed. Stripers, try trolling a shadalicious swim bait, they are about 7 inches long, use your planner boards to do that. All this stuff works down river near burkesville, but the burkesville ramp is still touchy,Wish I could join you but the mate is in the hospital going on 12 days now. After the 4th gonna wear the river out, the water was as clear as ever, almost like before the dam dam work!Rots a ruck.

Before you race out to get those shad raps[after the bank approves your second mortgage], consider trying the "flicker shad" , it used to be called frenzy, BPS has them, and they are cheaper, and work just as well, even better in some cases. They come in two sizes, but most colors are crap, the crawfish, and fire tiger are the only ones I have had any consistant results with.Wimpy rods wont help trolling that current, especially if you use a board.

SORRY Cabelas has the baits not basspro. On amazon they are listed at 3.95 which is cheaper than a rap.I troll[or used to] on dale and the fire tiger flicker was one great bait,Most of the flick colors are doo-doo,but blk sl, and gold slv also work. They also cast very well, and are a great river bait.I wish I would have had these things when I used to fish the mississippi in Iowa, theres an old guy who fishes burkesville who also uses them.

Thanks for the tips. Looks like I need to do a little online shopping at Cabelas

Know what you mean about taking out a mortage for those Shadraps . Want to see an old man cry, just watch me when I hang one up and have break it off.

Plans were to go this Tuesday, but COE have now cut the flow back to 3,400 cfs. That's not enough flow for me boat.....maybe next year?
