    Stripers in July

Going to Lake Cumberland and staying at the Alligator II (Indian Hills) lake front cabins July 20,21,22. Want to do some striper fishing in early morning and late in evening. Have a down rigger on my boat plus some walker divers (like dippsy divers) . Can anyone give me advice on lures and area they may be concentrated in. I have done the nite bite for years but have never trolled for them.

Main lake points 20 to 30 ft. Vertical jigging spoons.
That's how we caught them last year the whole month of July. Parallel the points starting out in deeper water and keep moving in. No problem to see them on the graph (520c) drop straight down. Had a lot of doubles. We used Hopkins spoons and sexy spoons.
It may not work this year but had a blast year. I fished bout 3 hours after work till dark.

Been a number of years since I trolled for stripers out there. Used to do real well with bucktail jigs and a twister tail trailer. 1/2 oz jig, 6 inch trailer, 100 feet behind the downrigger ball. At 2 mph, the jig will drop 6-8 feet below the ball so you'll need to consider that in addition to the fall back on the ball when determining your depth. Main lake from Wolf Creek to the dam is where I normally trolled. Zig zag pattern over the main lake channel. If you hit a short fish, keep going as you'll just keep catching short ones. Hit a keeper, circle back through that area. Bear in mind that with the surface temps as high as they are its a catch and keep deal as most stripers that are released will end up dying.

So your heading back to CLand. Best of Luck!!! Hopefully better than this spring and less lumber in the lake. I will be giving you a shout early next year for the Spring Night bite...
