    mcalpine dam

I got a chance to go the falls saturday night. I didn't get to take any bluegill with me this trip. so I stopped at the big cat bait shop, in clarksville. the guy didn't have any skipjack, but had some frozen shad. gave 7 dollars for 6 shad in a freezer bag. I didn't want to be without any bait, in case I couldn't catch any with my throw net. but it worked out good, I went t a place Doug showed me. and got all the shad I needed the first cast with the net. anyway first fish was a really big gar, it was about 5ft long. then the rod on the back of the boat went down and the drag was screaming, I was making my way to the rodholder and the fish broke my line. it was new 65lb braided line. the next fish was a blue cat, my guess it weighed in the mid thirtys. fished until midnight and left. gave the few shad that I had left to some guys fishing beside the boat ramp. thats a fun place to fish, I really like it.

I'm probably going with Knute (the heathen) Tuesday evening. He's always stuck on the striper bite. Did you see any surface action?

no, I didn't see any. and the catfish bite was very slow for me. fished for 7 hours and hooked 3 fish. but I enjoyed the time on the river. think I'll try it again before fall.
