You're absolutely right!
It's no way to run a business but then that's the heart of the problem - it's NOT a business. It's a tax funded government operation & is under no incentive to be competitive or return a profit. Unless there's a budget cut & the operation is canceled, the paycheck comes reliably. The folks running it are paid the same if all the buoys are empty. You actually complicate their "jobs" by not renting for the entire year as soon as the season opens! How dare you?
If it were your business, wouldn't you be scheming for ways to fill every buoy? You please someone like yourself, w/reduced rate for shortened season, & he decides that towing the rig is a pita & is first in line to rent for the entire season next year. Word spreads that your operation is a great/convenient way to boat Brookville, business expands & soon you're looking @ adding a few buoys to the operation.
God bless the free market system!
Sure am glad someone sees it as I do! These people in the Mounds office are really hateful and rude. I just bought this pontoon in late June...that's why I want the buoy for half season, rather than towing and launching it. With the economy the way it is I would think the state would want the money...even if is run to not make a profit. 450 is just too steep for me...just will wait til next year. I think they should change this policy esp. if their are plenty of spots availible. Sure would hate to make their jobs complicated! I'm still gonna try to speak to the prop mgr tho. At least voice my opinion.
Pleasure boaters w/boats like pontoons, sailboats & 20-30' cruisers are the guys I'm targeting for my mooring buoy business! Trailing & storing those boats can be a nuisance. You want to drive to the lake on short notice & hop on your boat for a couple hours w/friends & family.
Good luck negotiating!
Finally spoke to someone with some clout at the Mounds office...evidentally the state office in Indy got my email I sent questioning this matter, and sent it to the Mounds ofiice! Explained how I felt and he said he understood and the office in Indy is working on an answer. Still getting conflicting info tho. At least I rattled their cage and got a little satisfaction. We will see what happens.
