Forgot to mention and most important, that gravel bar, as well as the rocks at the chute are just under the surface at 3,400 cfs;....bad news...In that boat, right now at 3,400 cfs discharge, not very far. Upstream from Helm Landing, there is Blackfish Creek, then the "chute", then a long gravel bar. If you are going downstream from the dam, this gravel bar should be your STOPPING/TURNAROUND POINT, unless you want to lose your lower unit. And even then, you need to know where the channel is. You really need a jon boat with a short shaft motor to fish the Cumberland, or better a tunnel hull with a jet motor.
Don't underestimate how quickly the current at 3,400 cfs can take control of your boat! Be safe and save the lower unit $$.![]()
